The Role
Reporting to the Head of Infrastructure, this highly technical role is responsible for managing Pret’s server and networking estate with a focus on resilience, disaster recovery, capacity planning, and uptime. You will work in a fast-paced environment ensuring our IT infrastructure supports core business needs while optimizing performance and reliability. As the key technical authority, you will maintain service availability, support business continuity, and manage escalations for major incidents. Although there are no initial direct reports, this could be a future requirement.
Responsibilities
* Ensure high availability and uptime across critical IT systems, proactively identifying and mitigating risks to service performance.
* Collaborate with the Head of IT Infrastructure to maintain secure, business-aligned systems.
* Lead the resolution of complex infrastructure issues, serving as the final escalation point for technical challenges.
* Provide on-call support for significant issues, ensuring prompt resolution during critical incidents.
* Oversee proactive maintenance and monitoring of servers, cloud services, and network systems to ensure maximum performance and resilience.
* Respond to data centre alerts and take corrective actions to prevent service disruptions.
* Implement and maintain best practices for disaster recovery and business continuity planning.
* Research and introduce new technologies to enhance efficiency, scalability, and security.
* Work closely with security teams to ensure compliance with industry standards (PCI-DSS experience is a plus).
* Manage relationships with external vendors and service providers, ensuring SLAs are met and technology roadmaps align with business needs.
* Maintain detailed documentation of infrastructure, including configurations, dependencies, and processes.
* Develop clear communication plans for system maintenance, upgrades, and outages.
* Mentor and train Service Desk analysts and IT staff to enhance technical capabilities.
* Support cost optimisation efforts by evaluating infrastructure investments, licensing, and cloud utilisation.
* Advocate for automation and infrastructure-as-code (IaC) methodologies to streamline operations.
* Out-of-hours work may be required for upgrades, patching, and other maintenance activities.
Skills and Experience
* At least 5 years in a senior IT infrastructure management role, with proven focus on uptime and availability in large-scale environments.
* Hands-on experience in server and network management. Proficiency with Azure Cloud, Office 365, Cisco Networking and Web Filtering, and Mimecast is essential.
* Professional certifications such as MCSE, MCITP, CCNA, or equivalent practical experience are required.
* Strong knowledge of security best practices and compliance standards, with PCI-DSS experience considered beneficial.
* Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to resolve technical issues under pressure.
* Proven ability to manage vendor relationships and evaluate technology solutions that meet business needs and SLAs.
* Familiarity with automation tools and infrastructure-as-code (IaC) approaches is advantageous.
* Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey complex technical issues to non-technical stakeholders.
* Helpful to have commercial awareness, although the role remains highly technical at its core.
