The Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway (RH&DR) is a historic narrow-gauge railway in Kent, England, celebrated for its unique charm and rich history. Since its opening in 1927, RH&DR has been a marvel of miniature engineering, operating on a 15-inch gauge track with meticulously crafted locomotives and rolling stock. Our railway blends historical and modern elements, offering a picturesque journey through the Romney Marsh and hosting a variety of special events and exhibitions.
The Role
We are seeking a dynamic General Manager to lead our team and ensure the safe, sustainable development of our railway. Key responsibilities include:
* Leading and developing a diverse team of 60 staff and over 150 volunteers.
* Overseeing operations as a major public-facing visitor attraction, focusing on safety, performance, and quality.
* Innovating and developing commercial income streams to meet financial targets.
* Leading fundraising efforts to secure a robust future for RH&DR.
* Collaborating with the Board, Supporters’ Association, local council, and business community.
* Ensuring effective safeguarding and maintaining a strong relationship with the Office of Rail and Road (ORR).
* Commitment to equality, inclusivity, and eliminating discrimination.
