Job Title: Finance Manager

AJ Connect is delighted to be partnering with one of Scotland's leading Law Firm's to appoint a Finance Manager. This Firm has specialised in meeting the legal, financial, and administrative needs for their clients for over 100 years.
This is a newly created position within the Finance team and will suit a Qualified Accountant with SME industry experience, or a first mover from Practice who has been working with a variety of SME clients.
The role will be working closely with and reporting directly into the Finance Director, where you will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the transactional finance team, with directly line management responsibility of 4. You will also have responsibility of but not limited to preparing monthly and year-end accounts, financial information, budgeting and forecasting, and VAT and payroll.
You will be responsible for:
* Responsibility for the smooth, efficient operations of the firm's transactional Cashroom and Billing teams incorporating all dealings with client and firm monies and ensuring full compliance by the firm with the Law Society of Scotland Accounts Rules
* Working with MBM's Billing and Cashroom Managers to ensure WIP and client unbilled costs are managed effectively and efficiently
* Working with the Cashroom team ensure a robust credit control environment is in place
* Management of the Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Compliance Team and all its operations
* Proposing and developing improvements to Cashroom, Billing and AML Compliance team processes, procedures, and controls
* Authorisation of online bank payments, both client and firm, on a daily basis as required
* Responsibility for the preparation and review of high-quality monthly management accounts and commentary to reflect business performance, working to the required deadlines
* Responsibility for preparation, review and sign off of year end accounts including liaison with the auditors
* Preparation of detailed financial analysis as required, including analysis at a partner group, team, and individual level
* Preparation of net profitability reporting at group, team, and individual level
* Preparation of regular cashflow and profit and loss forecasting
* Preparation of annual budgets and cashflows within the agreed timelines, and monitoring
* Responsibility for the accurate preparation and submission of business statutory and regulatory requirements including quarterly VAT returns
* Review and sign off of monthly payrolls
* Completion of all tax analysis work and preparation of draft tax computations
* Responsibility for the completion of all annual insurance policy renewals
* In-house Companies - providing company secretarial services for all group companies
* To provide guidance and training within the finance team and the firm as a whole on cashroom/billing/time recording and AML working practices.
The ideal candidate will possess:
* ICAS/ICAEW/CIMA/ACCA or equivalent qualified accountant with strong SME experience
* Highly organised, able to work autonomously, managing own and team's workload and prioritising tasks to tight deadlines
* Strong team/people management skills essential
* Proven skills in managing a transactional team is essential
* Comfortable working in a finance team of 8, in a growing, ambitious SME business
* Ability and appetite to "get the sleeves rolled up" when required
* Flexible, positive, and self-motivated
* Meticulous attention to detail, delivering accurate, reliable, and timely outputs
* Comfortable learning new systems, developing and implementing new procedures and proposing solutions for problems
* Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a customer focused approach.
