Adult Social Care in Westminster City Council is a world of extraordinary stories, where our passionate, caring and committed professionals do brilliant work every day.
Mr K has a diagnosis of Paranoid Schizophrenia and was in care for a long period as a child. Before he came to MH Reablement, Mr K had frequent re-admissions to hospital, and his risks included social isolation and self-neglect.
Our Independent Living Assessor/ Occupational Therapy Care Manager (OTCM) of the MH Reablement Team worked closely with Mr K to support him with his activities of daily living and he became independent in managing laundry, personal care tasks and completing meal preparation independently. We improved his health and nutrition, reduced hospital admissions and he met his re-ablement goals and continues to flourish independently within our community.
The Role:
As a Social Worker within one of three teams who are currently recruiting for compassionate and motivated colleagues, you will make a powerful contribution to the wellbeing of Westminster’s residents.
Working within a high-profile borough such as Westminster is both exciting and challenging. Our Social Work teams are co-located alongside our local NHS Trust healthcare staff, which makes for a truly collaborative working environment, in which health and social care colleagues can act quickly to deliver outstanding results for those who most need us. Collectively, we want to help those with mental health issues achieve a great quality of life, and this means that we must help them maintain their independence for as long as possible, while safeguarding the most vulnerable. We don't believe that one size fits all, and as such, we have unique teams for individual mental health challenges, and it is against this backdrop that you could find a truly fulfilling opportunity in one of three teams.
Within our Community Social Work Locality Teams we have vacancies for Social Workers who will conduct assessments under the Care Act, and devise effective plans in partnership with other services to protect vulnerable residents. For these particular roles, you will have the opportunity to train as an AMHP if you are not already qualified, and once qualified you will benefit from an annual allowance of up to 5% of your annual salary.
You will find that our interventions-based colleagues are passionate about doing things differently. That isn’t just limited to the people that we're working with in our community, but also how we work with each other within our forward-thinking team. As such we offer genuinely exceptional supervision and guidance via our social work forum, and there is the scope to have a mentor if this would be beneficial to you. If you would like to be part of our Global Majority support network, you will also have the chance to take part in reverse mentoring for senior managers.
About You:
We know that the best results happen when our people have the freedom and autonomy to adapt their interventions to each person they’re working with. You’ll therefore be a proactive individual, with a creative approach to working with service users and their families and carers. Above all else, you’ll put their dignity and respect at the heart of every intervention you’re proposing. On a practical level, you’ll be a qualified and registered Social Worker or AMHP, and it would be helpful if you have a background in working with adults who have mental health problems. This experience will be complemented by a good knowledge of the relevant legislation and guidance. Comfortable working with people from a wide range of ethnic and cultural groups, we’ll expect you to have fantastic communication skills with the capacity to build relationships with people from every walk of life.
