Automated Building and Energy Controls Limited JOB DESCRIPTION Special Projects Engineer Full Time 40 hours per week plus travel Department Region Office Projects London & South East Tewkesbury / Wokingham ABEC Background ABEC is an Energy and Building Management System Specialist carrying out new Installations & Projects, Maintenance and Energy Management Services. This is a fast growing company with a turnover of c£10M with main offices in Tewkesbury and regional offices in London, Wokingham, and Birmingham, consisting of over 55 staff and a network of sub-contractors and suppliers with a plan to grow over the next few years. The Role The Special Projects Engineer will be responsible for turnkey delivery of “special projects” deemed by the business as being either linked to end user clients, niche markets, or as associated with our maintenance or energy divisions. The role is specifically client facing, involving the management of projects, the final design of the BMS solution, engineering of the BMS software & graphics, associated commissioning and final client handover and demonstration of projects varying in size and type. A strong understanding of mechanical and electrical services, HVAC systems and applications, Control Panels, Building Management Systems and discrete controls is a necessity. A Special Projects Engineer will work closely with our Customers in providing a technically sound solution on time and in budget. The market of “Special Projects” signifies the need for a more nurturing and less contractual engagement with our client base, however the special projects engineer is responsible for the commercial and contractual delivery of the turnkey project from sales handover to client acceptance. Responsibilities Ensure customer satisfaction is maintained at all times, and regular contact is maintained. From a sales handover, validate scope and complete robust and spec compliant design of the BMS / technological solution. Hold commercial responsibility to meet or improve upon project target margins, and fulfil all procurement as required. Ensure project delivery is achieved on time to the programme. Manage sub-contract installation and manufacturing to meet project requirements. Manage additional labour resources if required. Undertake full engineering and design of the project, to high standards. Undertake the on-site pre-commissioning / final commissioning of the associated technologies used on the project. Be solely responsible in the demonstration and hand over of fully operational systems for acceptance by the customer. Ensure compliance to ABEC quality assurance procedures and standards. Ensure progress reporting is achieved on time internally and externally. Undertake the creation of risk assessments and method statements for all works, and ensure health and safety procedures and standards are followed. Ensure sites are cleared of surplus equipment and materials prior to handover / demonstration / completion. Create and maintain all pertinent design and record documentation throughout the project, concluding in final record version for client manuals. Projects in the order of £100k in contract value. An excellent understanding of mechanical and electrical building services, control applications, and BSRIA and CIBSE Industry guidelines. Fluent with Trend, and at least 1 other building management system (Delta / Siemens / Cylon) to achieve full design and commissioning of hardware, software and graphics. Experience and demonstrable competence of commissioning integration products and protocol exchange software such as TONN, Tridium, SIPs using Modbus, BACnet, M-Bus etc. Fluent with IT networking / Internet Protocol design, implementation and resilience. Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel software. Extensive experience managing projects, engineering and commissioning building management systems Experience of engineering significant sized projects (i.e., over £200K in value) Previous experience in training / development of others / junior engineers. Knowledge of JCT/DOM/NEC standard forms of contract. Knowledge of the Housing and Grants Construction Acts. Proficient with Microsoft Project software. Relevant qualifications Essential Desirable Suitable qualification to demonstrate electrical competency around the electro-technical aspects of control panels, LV and ELV installations associated with the industry (such as C&G 2391,2356 or NVQ Level 3 Electrical Qualification). Trend Expert level qualification / other manufacturer equivalent (Delta / Siemens / Cylon / Tridium). HVAC Fundamentals qualifications. Various product specific technical courses. CITB / SMSTS H&S accreditation or IOSH equiv. ECS CSCS accreditation as “Controls Engineer”. BEng (Hons) Building Services Engineering / Controls and Instrumentation. First Aid Trained. PASMA accreditation. IPAF (3a and 3b) accreditation. Communications and interpersonal skills Essential Desirable Customer focused approach. Strong desire to deliver quality of service.
