SCHOOL NURSE
Required for January 2025. The applicant must live within approximately fifteen miles of Ascot and a full driving licence is essential. Applications should be made by Monday 18th November 2024.
The School Nurse is responsible to the School Doctor, the Headmaster, and the Headmaster’s Wife. The post is part-time (30 hours per week) involving flexible hours to suit the right candidate. The School is in session for 33 weeks a year.
Responsibilities
The School Nurse is responsible for the following:
* Managing the school ‘surgery’ in line with OFSTED and ISI recommendations.
* Providing day-to-day care for pupils and staff.
* Managing twice weekly doctors surgeries and all NHS administration.
* Liaising with the GPs and other HCP in the external multi-disciplinary team.
* Support to members of staff involved in pastoral care and attend bi-termly meetings.
* Being available during term time so that staff at Papplewick can contact the Nurse by telephone if necessary.
* Key member of staff for safeguarding and child protection.
* Administering medications and managing over-the-counter and prescription medications for boarders within protocols.
* Monitoring chronic diseases such as Asthma, Epilepsy, Diabetes, and Anaphylaxis; devising, implementing, and evaluating Care plans where appropriate.
* Pitch side First Aid and assessment of sports injuries on the field.
* The assessment of minor childhood illnesses and injuries and documentation of HSE reportable accidents.
* Training of teaching staff/boarding staff in the administration of medicines and long-term medical conditions.
* Maintenance of medical stock and first aid boxes.
* Producing and reviewing policies e.g. for the administration of medicines and first aid.
* Ensuring staff first aid training needs are met.
* Insuring maintenance of AED device.
* Promote health and contribute to health education in school.
* Support external school Aged Vaccination Team in the administration of scheduled Childhood immunisations.
* Carry out health surveillance and monitoring as appropriate.
* Have excellent knowledge of Safeguarding and Child Protection.
* Write and update school policies as required by OFSTED and ISI.
Person Specification
* The candidate must be a qualified Nurse.
* Ability to offer high level and compassionate pastoral care.
* Ability to take responsibility for making decisions on medical issues involving the boys.
* Ability to work as part of a team.
* Ability to communicate with parents effectively.
* A well-developed sense of humour.
* An understanding that, at its heart, prep school life should be fun.
* A good level of competency in the use of ICT.
* Willingness to promote and safeguard the welfare of all the boys.
