As part of the Data Centre Infrastructure Management team, you will be supporting and operating business critical university data centre environments. This will be across all Campus locations and off-site data centre sites.
About the Role
To support the development and maintenance of the University’s Data Centres and physical IT Infrastructure across multiple locations including Data Centres, Main Equipment Rooms (MERs), Distribution Equipment Rooms (DERs) and Secondary Equipment Rooms (SERs).
To provide 24/7 response to critical ICT events as part of an on-call rota.
What you will do
To design and implement flexible and innovative technical environments and platforms throughout their entire lifecycle in support of the University’s core mission. To collaborate with external suppliers, staff from across the department and directly with the University community to capture requirements and agree implementation details. To engineer solutions using agreed tools to meet identified requirements.
To ensure reliability and quality of services delivered by creating and maintaining processes, policies, standards, and documentation that underpin the rest of the University IT Estate. Actively ensure that these are used by everyone who interacts with the data centres, equipment rooms or the services housed within them.
Respond to manual and automated alarms and alerts (including environmental factors and service issues), originating from the Data Centres, MERs, DERs and SERs across the campus and various University premises, triaging, resolving and / or escalating, as necessary. Support Data Centre Infrastructure Technicians in more complex situations.
Engage with roadmaps and strategic change to understand how the data centre infrastructure service should evolve. Keep up to date with external suppliers and industry practice and propose change where there is opportunity to improve service or efficiency.
The post holder will be expected to undertake the duties as part of an integrated team and will be expected to adopt priorities and engage in activities that promote the effective working of the whole team.

Technical specialists and service delivery teams within iSolutions
Academic staff at all levels across the organisation
Professional Services and Faculty colleagues across the University.
External:
Datacentre facilities, hardware and software suppliers and service providers.
Other academic institutions and related organisations to participate in collaborative activities and projects to the benefit of iSolutions and the University as a whole. It is expected that the duties will be performed in the light of the relevant activities in Higher Education generally. The post holder will be expected to be aware of the activities and initiatives being formulated globally within the relevant specialist area and will be expected to take part in such activities should they be relevant to, and of benefit to, the work being undertaken locally.

The post holder should have:
Experience of working within a large, highly available data centre environment.
Experience of managing and troubleshooting enterprise level network, server and storage hardware and software.
Significant experience of delivering change using appropriate methodologies.
A relevant technical, engineering or science degree and/or equivalent technical experience OR Higher Qualification in Computing or qualifications from Microsoft, Red Hat or VMware OR Skill level equivalent to achievement of HND, Degree, NVQ4 or basic professional qualification.
