A vacancy has arisen for a consultant spinal surgeon within the Trust. The successful candidate will have responsibility for the management of both elective and acute patients, including spinal on-call. Candidates with a background in either orthopaedics or neurosurgery will be considered.
You will have significant spinal surgery experience. You will join a large team of existing orthopaedic consultants within the Trust, which includes 5 established spinal consultants. The spinal unit sees a large volume of patients and provides satellite clinics in a number of community locations.
The unit has high standards and a dynamic forward thinking team with plans to grow further. The unit is well resourced with its own clinic and a dedicated spinal ward and theatres, within the broader orthopaedic footprint.
The spinal team provides a full range of general and specialised surgical interventions, with the exception of intra-dural work and paediatric scoliosis. A dedicated intervention and diagnostic service is also available.

Nottingham University has a graduate-entry medical school on the Royal Derby Hospital campus which has greatly enhanced the teaching and research opportunities for medical staff. The Trust is committed to education and you will therefore be expected to participate in student and postgraduate teaching.
You should possess FRCS or equivalent, have completed a Higher Specialist Training Programme in Trauma and Orthopaedics or Neurosurgery, and possess full GMC Registration with a license to practice and be eligible for entry on the GMC Specialist Register by one of the following routes:-
1. Certification of Completion of Training (CCT) the proposed CCT must be within 6 months of the interview date
2. Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) CESR candidates must have written GMC confirmation upon successful application
