Can you keep Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet’s waterwheels running? We are seeking an enthusiastic person with an engineering or joinery skills background and an interest in conserving Sheffield’s industrial heritage. This is a practical hands-on technical post created to ensure that Sheffield Museums’ working exhibits are conserved and maintained, as well as helping to preserve the essential millwrighting skills needed to run this inspiring machinery. The Museum Technician will include daily maintenance and conservation duties at Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet, Shepherd Wheel Workshop and Kelham Island Museum, being based at Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet. The post will follow and contribute to Health & Safety best practice and work as part of with our small team in all aspects of the Museums’ operation and development. We are looking for a person with relevant engineering and joinery experience and knowledge but also with the desire to develop their skills and is enthusiastic to learn. If you don’t have the full range of conservation engineering or joinery experience, but this role excites you and you have aptitude in this area we’d like to hear from you. This is a rare opportunity for a Technician with enthusiasm to learn new skills, an outgoing personality and a positive attitude to health and safety best practice.
