Would you like a role supporting the mental health of young people? Do you want to support young children and adolescents aged 5 to 16 with trauma, mental health and behavioural challenges?
An inclusive specialist school for children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs in Swindon are looking for a Teaching Assistant to help support with behaviour and mental health issues. Graduates who have qualified in Psychology, Counselling or Criminology would be great for this but candidates with relevant experience will also be considered!
The students at the school are aged 5 to 18 and all struggle to process and regulate their own emotions. This stems from childhood trauma and causes stress, anxiety, attachment issues and depression. As a Mental Health Support Worker, you will help the pupils cope with their emotions and help foster a sense of trust within the school environment. You will also help to shadow the class teacher and offer assistance with various classroom tasks.
The SEN students are aged 5 to 16 and all have significant developmental trauma, emotional needs and behavioural challenges so the successful Teaching Assistant will be supporting each individual’s well being and personal development. You will help raise attainment by improving pupil self-esteem and help improve any barriers to learning.
This is a FANTASTIC opportunity for the successful Teaching Assistant to work alongside the therapists and psychologists based on-site at school. In this role you will build front line, practical experience with young people with significant needs and learn to understand how to communicate and support them, through the help of trained professionals and experienced team members. This is a great opportunity for an aspiring educational or occupational psychologist, therapist, counsellor, teacher or even criminal justice officer!
