The Opportunity
Our client is a leading Engineering Consultancy specializing in the petrochemical sector. They are currently searching for a Lead/Principal Instrumentation Engineer to join their team and take the lead in one of their major projects.
Operating on a hybrid basis (3 days in the office, 2 days from home), you will be responsible for leading a team of engineers to produce designs for medium/large scale infrastructure projects in the chemical or petrochemical sector. You will communicate across multi-disciplined teams to ensure the project is completed on time and within budget.
Projects and proposals are for process plants and facilities across multiple sectors, including Chemical, Petrochemical, Power, Energy Transition, and New Energy sectors.
Contract: This role has been deemed inside IR35
Duration: 12 months
Rate: £50.00 - £55.00/hr PAYE
You will be based out of our client's offices in Manchester, with occasional requirements to visit client sites.
Your Duties and Responsibilities
1. Work across a project on a well-established Master Service Agreement.
2. Engage in the full project lifecycle, including conceptual studies, FEED, and detailed design phases.
3. Develop Control & Instrument Engineering deliverables as required on a project-by-project basis.
4. Lead a team of instrumentation engineers, ensuring deliverables are completed on time.
5. Provide technical assistance when required.
6. Communicate effectively across multiple teams within the company.
7. Communicate effectively with the client and project management team.
8. Carry out occasional site visits as required.
9. Manage/control and report on budget and schedule.
Qualifications & Experience
1. Degree qualified in a related discipline.
2. Have or work towards Chartered Engineer status as a Member of the Institute of Measurement and Control (IMC) or Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
3. Experience in Instrument Engineering Design on medium/large capital projects from concept to start-up.
4. Extensive experience in the Chemical, Petrochemical, and Oil & Gas industries.
5. Very good proactive communicator.

1. Competence to interface with other disciplines.
2. Competence in project execution using selected design tools and techniques.
3. Competence in design, safety, and constructability.
4. Competence in specification, technical bid analysis, and requisitioning of field instrumentation and analysers.
5. Competence in the application, specification, and requisitioning of DCS, PLC, and SIS systems, with experience in the systems' full lifecycle.
6. Competence in the specification/design/implementation of Hazardous Area Instrumentation (ATEX).
7. Competence in instrumentation and control requirements for mechanical packages.
8. Competence in P&ID development.
9. Competence in the sizing of flow devices/control valves/relief devices.
