Job Summary
The booking coordinator will provide a comprehensive booking service being conversant and knowledgeable in the intricacies of the specialty waiting lists. They will be expected to manage their workload and assist with training and troubleshooting when required. The booking coordinator will act as an essential point of contact for all patients waiting for a surgical procedure, and play a vital role in ensuring patients are booked in line with the Trust's access policy, enabling the Trust to meet national targets around waiting times. The booking coordinator should exercise initiative and carry out their duties in such a way as to make a direct and positive contribution to the organisation. Using Cerner on a daily basis. Keeping up to date with emails is imperative.
Main duties of the job
The overriding purpose is to support the provision of the highest quality patient care through personal actions and continuous improvement.
1. The constraints of the 18-Week Referral-To-Treatment pathway.
2. To maintain a high standard of quality in providing a service; supporting patients and professionals.
3. To ensure that patients receive good quality, appropriate documentation/information relating to their appointment in line with current Trust and Divisional objectives.
4. Using LUNA daily, liaising with the Patient Pathway Team across the Trust as a whole, to ensure co-ordination of all elements of the patient pathway. This may include highlighting patient target dates to ensure that investigations/diagnostics are carried out and results received in a timely manner.
5. To highlight any potential breaches or delays in the patient's pathway to the Assistant Service Manager according to the Trust's escalation policy.
6. To liaise directly with patients to book, cancel, and rebook any outpatient appointments or procedure dates.
7. Deal with patient queries effectively written and via telephone/email.
8. To ensure booking of relevant clinical activity (e.g. procedures and managing patient pathways in conjunction with the Patient Pathway Team).
9. Have the ability and commitment to work as a team member and be able to adhere to strict deadlines.

Job Description
Job responsibilities
1. Ensure patients are added to the waiting list within 3 working days of a decision to admit.
2. Ensure all patient details are up to date within Cerner to enable the patient to be contacted.
3. Manage and organise Consultants waiting lists, identify problems, deal with them on own initiative, and strategically plan own workload.
4. Ensure all offers of dates are recorded in Cerner.
5. Ensure the appropriate RTT status is recorded in Cerner.
6. Participate as a team member in the smooth day to day operational management of the Booking Office.
7. Utilise LUNA/Cerner to manage patient waiting lists, and to enable the correct booking order of patients.
8. Liaise directly with patients to book, cancel and reschedule any admission dates.
9. Use new systems within the department to promote an efficient service.
10. To support the department and organisation by carrying out any other duties that reasonably fit within the broad scope of a job of this grade and type of work.

Essential

Desirable
* An understanding of the present issues facing the NHS.
* Excellent knowledge of Hospital Information system Cerner.
* Specialty clinical knowledge.
