Job summary
The Pharmacy department at The Royal Surrey Foundation Trust is looking for a talented, forward thinking leader for the operational pharmacy services to meet the needs of the patients we serve. The post combines the leadership of the and operational (dispensary and stores) services, with the aim of supporting our department to deliver its priorities by focussing pharmacy services at ward level.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will help represent the department at Trustwide and divisional levels to support the development of the pharmacy and medicines strategies within the Trust, and will work closely with the pharmacy teams to deliver this strategy.
This is a full-time post of hours per week, however flexible working and job-share will be considered

Job description
Job responsibilities
Responsible to the development, management and provision of the pharmaceutical services to inpatients and day cases of the Royal Surrey County Hospital, Royal Surrey Cancer Centre and other hospitals and clinics, including Milford, Haslemere and Cranleigh Hospitals that are provided with a pharmacy service from the Royal Surrey Pharmacy Department.
Responsible for the maintenance of the operational areas as to a standard suitable for inspection.
Responsible for the effective use and maintenance of the Omnicell Robotic Dispensing System and Omnicell e-CD Dispensing Cabinet, in order to improve efficiency within operational services.
Responsible for the line management of the three Lead Technicians within operational services and supervision of all other staff allocated to operational services.
Responsible for all operational policies and procedures relating to pharmaceutical services or care which will have a Trust wide impact.
Responsible for the quality of advice to patients and staff on all services provided.
As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, work collaboratively with the Chief Pharmacist contributing to the strategic development of Pharmacy services across and outside the Trust.
Be responsible for the provision of late night rotas for all staff, and weekend rotas for all the technical staff alongside the Deputy Chief Pharmacist for Clinical Operations and the Deputy Chief Pharmacist for Oncology Services.
Be responsible for the collection and provision of all key performance indicators and provide monthly data for the Trust.
Be responsible for all Health and Safety risk assessments and annual Health and Safety inspections for all operational areas.
Responsible for the final accuracy checking of dispensed products.
Responsible for the provisionof a comprehensivedispensing service to the Trust and external customers. This service includes the provision of services to meet the specialised and complex medication needs of patients including unlicensed and investigational products,
Be responsible for the appropriate storage of pharmaceuticals, including controlled drugs.
Responsible for the line management of technical staff, and supervision of other staff allocated to operational areas.
Responsible for the delivery of a dispensing and distribution service to 527 inpatient beds at the RSCH, outpatient clinics and day cases, including Childrens Unit and Royal Surrey Cancer Centre, external hospitals including Milford, Haslemere and Cranleigh hospitals.

Qualifications
Essential
1. Post graduate management qualification of ILM level 5
2. Registered with the GPhC
3. NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services plus underpinning knowledge from BTEC in Pharmaceutical Science or an equivalent accredited qualification
4. Educational Supervisor or and equivalent qualification
Desirable
5. Diploma in Management Health or equivalent
6. Appointing Officer Training
Knowledge
Essential
7. Significant demonstrable expert experience in the following aspects of Pharmacy services: Inpatient services / Distribution / Expert knowledge of hospital pharmacy standards as defined by the GPhC
8. In depth knowledge of Pharmacy IT systems
9. Experience of report writing at a highly complex level
10. Ability to generate and write operational reports and to interpret these appropriately providing commentary for senior management
11. Ongoing evidence of Continuing Professional Development
12. Extensive experience of Pharmacy practice
13. Staff management experience recruitment, appraisal, training, leadership, motivation, sickness absence
14. Resource management experience
15. Understanding of robotic dispensing systems
16. Pharmacy logistics and stock control experience
17. Experience of undertaking audit work
18. Experience managing change or introduction of new systems
