This exciting opportunity requires the post holder to complete the agreed LMNS preceptorship package with the support of a robust preceptorship programme as part of their professional development and transition to Band 6.

Main duties of the job
The role requires the successful candidate to provide a high level of evidence-based, compassionate care to women and families throughout the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal period.
You will be required to work flexibly across the service to meet the needs of women and their families, working in close partnership with both the woman and the Multidisciplinary Team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. Provide safe, high-quality evidence-based care throughout the maternity pathway.
2. Ensure information is communicated in a clear and unbiased way to facilitate informed decision making.
3. In partnership with the woman, assess needs, plan, implement and evaluate care on an individual basis, promoting equality and considering diversity and rights.
4. Maintain contemporaneous documentation in accordance with NMC Code.
5. Liaise and work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team and other agencies, when complex needs are identified.
6. Continuously assess risks and deviations from normal and ensure timely referral, intervention and escalation.
7. Consider the diverse needs of women and their families and ensure the delivery of individualised plans of care.
8. Participate in the provision of public health information.
9. Provide health/parent education either individually or in groups to maximise the benefit to families.
10. Facilitate women’s involvement in the decision-making process regarding all aspects of their pregnancy, birth and postnatal care.
11. Participate in departmental team meetings and other committees when necessary.
12. Work flexibly across different wards/departments as indicated by service needs.
13. May be required to participate in on-call rota where appropriate.
14. Maintain compliance with Trust policies in relation to Infection Control to reduce HCAI.
15. Communicate in a clear and unbiased manner with women and families and the multi-disciplinary team.
16. Work within national and local guidelines in relation to midwifery practice.
17. Undertake all such reasonable other duties as may be required as part of the role.
18. Escalate any concerns in relation to professional practice to the relevant person/agency.
19. Liaise with outside agencies to enhance individualised care for more complex situations such as safeguarding, domestic abuse or substance misuse.
20. Maintain professional conduct including appearance at all times adhering to the local Trust uniform policy.
