Position: Cook
Responsible to: Home Manager / Deputy Manager
Purpose of position:
1. To share with other staff in meeting the dietary needs of the residents in such a way that food is prepared and served without the risk of harm to health and which is presented in an attractive way to promote interest.
2. To contribute to the Infection Control Policy of the organization by following Food Safety Regulations, audits and the homes cleaning procedures.
3. To contribute to keeping the dining room clean and pleasant for residents to enjoy their meals.
Principal Responsibilities:
1. To prepare and serve nutritionally balanced and attractively presented meals.
2. To be responsible for the efficiency, hygiene, and safety in the kitchen.
3. To organize and supervise the work of other staff working in the kitchen.
4. To help promote residents' participation in the planning of meals, noting likes and dislikes of food.
5. Provide a variety for special dietary requirements.
6. Make full use of fresh fruit and vegetables in season.
7. Check on food stocks, list requirements, and place orders checking the quality and reporting any problems.
8. Comply with Health and Safety laws and regulations.
9. Supervise and train junior staff in all aspects of catering duties.
10. Report to management/senior staff any observations you may make regarding residents' dietary requirements and problems.
11. Plan the kitchen off-duty for the kitchen staff working with the other domestic team.
12. Ensure the equipment is always in good working order, is clean and safe.
Communication:
1. Act courteously toward residents and their visitors, respecting the dignity and individuality of each resident and ensuring effective communication is maintained.
2. Participate in Staff and Client meetings as required.
3. Ensure the manager is informed of any issues or concerns regarding residents, staff members, and the building.
Other Duties:
1. Always act in a manner that respects and promotes the confidentiality of Service Users, Staff, and any other involved parties.
2. Adhere to all Company policies and procedures.
3. You may be required to perform other duties within your capacity, according to the needs of the business.
4. Ensure confidentiality is promoted and kept at all times in line with GDPR.
5. Attend and participate in staff meetings, supervision, and appraisals.
6. Attend all mandatory training when required and any other training when a need has been identified.
