Occupational Therapist - Inpatient Stroke Service
Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and innovative therapist to join the specialist stroke team, based on the inpatient stroke unit at Evesham Community Hospital as part of a 12-month fixed-term contract to cover maternity leave. This is an excellent opportunity to develop specialist skills, while contributing to the integrated and cohesive working of the inpatient team. The team is led by a band 7 Clinical Specialist/Team Lead providing regular supervision and support, alongside a variety of training opportunities including participation in IST programmes and regular joint working with the MDT. The post holder will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, a positive and innovative approach to service development and have a commitment to MDT working/skill sharing. You should have experience working within stroke or neurological rehabilitation.
Main duties of the job
You will manage a complex caseload autonomously, providing specialist inpatient rehabilitation to facilitate safe and timely discharges from the in-patient unit.
Day to day, you will be undertaking comprehensive assessments of all stroke patients including those with multiple pathologies/co-morbidities, using specialist OT assessment tools to identify personalised goals. You will formulate individual programmes of rehabilitation using clinical reasoning and utilising a range of treatment skills, targeting realistic and measurable, patient-led goals. It is also expected that you will offer support and education to carers/families. You will attend the weekly MDT meeting to discuss the progress of patients and identify person-centred goals.
As a band 6 therapist you will support the band 7 in leading and developing the service, manage a complex caseload of stroke patients and contribute towards the training of others.
