Main Duties and Responsibilities
New Product Development
* As part of the NPI Design team, provides direction towards Design for Manufacture (DfM) and Design for Test (DfT), defining and supporting the incorporation of the Test strategies for the product taking into account Cost, Efficiency and Quality.
* Review Customers Technical Documentation to establish the Production & Test Requirements.
* Supports the project planning and definition of deliverables to ensure that the project objectives are delivered on Time, on Cost and on Quality.
* Responsible for and manages their time and workload to achieve the project deliverables, highlighting identified risks and the remedial action.
* Identifies and develops all required supporting documentation during the development of the solution in accordance with defined Engineering procedures in line with project deliverable dates.
* Influences the design requirements for manufacturing & test processes applying knowledge of product design, assembly, testing, tooling and materials.
* Develops technical solutions for Test Hardware that could also include Software to meet Project needs, Regulatory requirements and STG Aerospace strategy in order to support New Product development.
* Design & develop Test Jigs, Fixtures, Harnesses and Enclosures to support Internal Testing, Demonstration Units and Product Acceptance that meets Health & Safety requirements.
* Develops all required supporting documentation, i.e. Work Instructions, Acceptance Test Instructions / Plans, Schematics, during the development of the solution in accordance with defined Procedures.
* Engineering Electronics Lab & workshop management, ensuring the availability of equipment and materials to support the project plans.
* Supports the business on proposals and bids.
* Follows STG Aerospace Processes and Procedures and completes all relevant checklists during the development of product solutions.
* Drives the improvement of the engineering function as well as the wider business including the development of new procedures and artefacts when required.
* Follows configuration management processes and identifies solutions where product or process falls short of such requirements.
Key Experience/skills
* Degree qualified in Product, Electrical or Manufacturing Engineering or another technical equivalent.
* 5 years+ Experience of operating in a New Product development engineering environment, with responsibilities in test & development engineering.
* Strong understanding of Design for Test (DfT) & Design for Manufacture (DfM).
* 5 years+ Experience & understanding of QA and production processes in the regulated electronics industry.
* An understanding of Health & Safety compliance.
* English GCSE or equivalent (min Grade C).
* Intermediate level user of MS Excel, Word and Outlook.
* Flexibility in dealing with changing priorities.
* Strong numerical and verbal ability.
* Knowledge of AS9100 compliance and operating environment.
* Communication: to be able to liaise and influence direction with a range of third parties including customers and suppliers with confidence and communicate clearly to internal team members and other functional stakeholders.
* Relationship building: to develop strong collaborative relations with staff and third parties.
* Team working: to be able to support other team members, delegate tasks where appropriate and take instruction in achieving the company’s goals.
* Time management: to be able to effectively prioritise and delegate to achieve goals.
* Thoroughness: to ensure own and others' work and information are complete and accurate; following up with others to ensure that commitments have been fulfilled.
* Analytical thinking: to tackle a problem by using a logical, systematic, sequential approach.
