Senior Clinical Fellow in Trauma & Orthopaedics

We have an exciting opportunity to join the Trauma and Orthopaedic team based at Epsom & St Helier Hospital as a Senior Clinical Fellow in Trauma and Orthopaedics.
The post is designed to provide you with a thorough and comprehensive approach to surgical management of patients. The educational methods include assessment of patients in clinics, pre-operative planning sessions, rounds and direct surgical experience. April -Sept 25 will be working alongside our Paediatric Consultant. The job plan will consist of: Paediatric elective clinics, general fracture clinics, elective operating support for Paediatrics, trauma and on-calls. Oct - March - Speciality allocation TBC.
Job summary
The post holder will be required to participate in the Middle Grade (Registrar) on call rota on a 1:12 basis, shared with colleagues. The post holder will also be required to participate on the Registrar of the Week Rota. At night the hospital runs a Hospital at Night service and as such the post holder will be expected to work as part of that team. At night, the Hospital at Night team base should be used during quiet periods. However, the Registrar is non-resident on call after 8pm.
Main duties of the job
1. Assessment, care and treatment of patients presenting acutely to the specialty and referred to the specialty.
2. Participation in the middle grade on call rota and to provide cover in exceptional circumstances for colleagues' absence.
3. Attending clinics and assessing patients and formulating treatment decisions seeking advice from the consultant as appropriate.
4. Attending operating sessions with the consultant and assisting or performing operations as appropriate.
5. Conducting daily ward rounds on inpatients under the consultant's care, supervising the junior doctors in the care of these patients.
6. Teaching and training staff in other medical disciplines, nursing and support staff as appropriate.
7. Communication with other team members as appropriate.
8. In conjunction with the admitting clinical teams and the wider health economy, to develop and implement integrated orthopaedic and emergency care pathways throughout the Trust.
9. Participation in relevant audit and quality assurance processes.
10. Abide by the Clinical & Corporate Governance policies of the Trust.
11. To make sure that the guidance from the General Medical Council on Good Medical Practice is at the centre of your clinical practice.
