We are looking for a Specialty Grade Doctor for our adult inpatient acute unit at the Priory Hospital Ticehurst House. Salary- £ competitive – negotiable depending on experience - NO ON CALL.

Our acute mental health units for adult male and female patients offer a 24-hour admission service to support local NHS services and PICU wards. The ethos of the acute wards is to provide support in a crisis and offer therapeutic engagement during the in-patient stay. Our specialist inpatient acute teams are committed to providing the highest quality of care, supporting patients with a wide range of mental health conditions, such as schizophrenia, personality disorder, depression, bipolar disorder and other diagnoses, in safe and highly therapeutic environments.
Speciality Doctors at Ticehurst House will join a large team of substantive medical staff, each team is led by a Consultant Psychiatrist supported by their Speciality Doctor and other members of the Multi -Disciplinary Team. We provide an excellent opportunity to develop your clinical knowledge, skills and practice working alongside experienced Consultants and clinicians within the team, offering a wide variety of clinical practice not usually available within the NHS. We offer a solid commitment to your CPD and have an excellent track record in supporting Specialty Doctors to achieve success in professional examinations and to move on to higher specialist training.
The post holder will be expected to work closely with the consultant and MDT, however they should also be able to work independently.
Out of hours cover for the site is provided by NES Healthcare and, as such, working hours are 37.5 hours per week, which conventionally runs from 9am to 5pm. No on call requirement needed at the current time.
Due to the specialist nature of these services, the Speciality Doctor has a key role in providing evidence-based assessment and treatment under direct supervision and support from the consultant. We have a national reputation for offering treatment for complex and challenging presentations in all our service users. You will also report to the supervising consultant and is expected to have formal supervision at a frequency compatible with Priory policy, and to be a member of a peer group within Priory.
Requirements:
• GMC registration with a license to practice
• Substantive experience in Psychiatry (minimum of at least 3 years)
• Section 12 approval (desirable or under way)
• MRCPsych (desirable or under way)

Job Advert Location Description
Job Purpose:
To deliver high quality clinical service to patients and to work closely with the unit’s multidisciplinary team, Resident Medical Officer (RMO) to ensure that patients receive a holistic and person-centric treatment programme based on the recovery model.
Responsibilities
• Undertake psychiatric and external assessments for clients referred to the unit to determine the appropriate level of care to be provided, under the direction and supervision of the Consultant Psychiatrist, and work with the unit multidisciplinary team to ensure delivery of the Care Programme.
• Prepare discharge summaries, reports and other associated documentation as necessary e.g. for CPA meetings, as directed and supervised by the Consultant Psychiatrist.
• Participation in learning activities and supervision.
• Participation in Clinical Governance activities, and account for contracted hours utilised in research, Continuing Professional Development and other non-clinical duties as necessary and in a timely manner.
• Working effectively with colleagues to ensure that clients have access to appropriate medical cover at all times, which will require participation in an on-call rota for the site during 9-5 Mon - Fri.
• The post holder will be expected to support colleagues in delivering physical health care and emergency treatment to patients in our care.
• To support the RMO and colleagues in delivering a consistently high standard of medical care to all patients on site. Be responsible for inducting new RMOs and providing cover for them when they are on compensatory rest periods during daytime.
• Share responsibility for taking bloods with the site colleagues and RMO as necessary.
• Arrange appropriate clinical tests and investigations and take responsibility for chasing up results and acting on them in a timely manner.
• Ensure physical observations by ward staff are carried out in accordance with medical instructions. Review physical observation findings and act upon them in a clinically appropriate manner.

Knowledge / Education / Skills
This post requires an MB.BS or equivalent, you will also need to be GMC registered and licensed to practice. We would also expect you to be in good standing with the Royal College of Psychiatrists for CPD and have an appraisal or RITA in the last year.
Experience
The post-holder should ideally have at least 3 years’ or more experience in the area of Psychiatry and should have encountered working in various inpatient settings with people with significant mental health difficulties.
Communication
Highly sophisticated communication and interpersonal skills are critical and essential, as this role requires building trust and confidence of patients in order for treatment and interventions to be effective and successful. Communication with relatives, GPs, CMHTs, care coordinators and acute trusts is also important within this role.
Responsibility
Shared responsibility for the confidentiality, security and accuracy of patient records, data and information. Ensuring good quality patient documentation, which meets the Regulatory guidelines and statutory requirements.
Safeguarding
All colleagues have a responsibility to protect and safeguard vulnerable individuals at risk (whether children or adults). Colleagues must be aware of local child and adult protection procedures and who to contact within the Local Authority Safeguarding team for further advice. All colleagues are required to attend safeguarding awareness training and to undertake additional training appropriate to their role.
