Perlemax Limited,
Job Role: Research Project Engineer
Company Profile:
Perlemax is a global award-winning company that commercialises enabling technology. Perlemax focusses on advancing disruptive inventions of Prof. Zimmerman and Dr. Desai into multiple sectors. Perlemax operates with endusers from a variety of industries including several Fortune 500 companies. Due to the nature of the technologies and wide-ranging implications of this technology, Perlemax has interactions with endusers from multiple fields and requires engineers with a strong technical footing, ability to problem solve, and ability to work alone or with interdisciplinary teams.
Our company follows a simple maxim: It is easier to provide a sustainable solution, it is far harder to provide a sustainable solution which is fiscally beneficial. We aim to produce a sustainable solution that is not a cost but generates revenues.
With the current cost crisis, climate crisis, and importation limitations, sustainable technologies need to be leveraged with reliable endusers to provide solutions meeting local requirements. Do you want to work with a company pushing for paradigm shifting solutions across a broad range of industries?
If so, and if you would like to join in to help the UK meet its UK2030 Decarbonisation target and the 2050 Net Zero goal, please apply today.
Current Engagement:
Our projects tend to be based on leveraging advances in process engineering to provide a process capable of reducing production price of commodities by utilising waste feedstock such as wastewater and upcycle it to various chemical products such as fertiliser.
The primary project for this post focusses on developing and adapting novel unit operations which can be used to treat wastewater, remediate and recover chemicals such as ethanol and ammonia from feedstock, disinfect reactors & defoul biofilms, DZ fermentation systems, DZ Waste Factory, solid separation, in situ product removal, esterification, transesterification reactions, hydrogenation, anaerobic digestions, biodiesel production, bioethanol refinery approach. Novel unit operations have also been used to capture and desorb carbon dioxide. These unit operations can greatly reduce existing process costs, with some showcasing 2-4 orders of magnitude level of improvements when compared to industrial benchmarks.
We are looking for a versatile engineer who is capable of working independently and within a team. The engineer is expected to work towards solving various problems brought forward and learn different processes very quickly. We expect that the engineer is familiar with the engineering basics and is able to communicate effectively to team members and to external members.
Since Perlemax is unique in that it developed technologies from the ideation stage to implementation in a real working environment in a rapid manner, we expect the engineer to be focussed on project delivery. The work requires significant engagement with individuals from various industries and backgrounds. The engineer should be comfortable with calculations, design drawings /mechanical engineering drawings, P&IDs, PFDs, GAs, lab-based experimental work, design of experiments, HAZOP/HAZAN + PUWER/PHEA with risk analysis, data visualisation & analysis, heat and mass balance, amongst other standard engineering outputs. The position is lab-based and industrial site work based. This means scale up is part of this activity and requires scaling systems up from lab scale to pilot scale, with further scale up resulting in systems working at industrially operational scale.
