Who You Are You are a technically competent individual, ideally with a degree or equivalent learning in Building Control, Building Surveying, Construction, or Structural Engineering. You hold membership in a relevant professional body like RICS, CABE, or CIOB with a strong bias towards Building Control, ensuring you meet CPD requirements. You have significant experience in Building Control for Class B buildings and a proven ability in managing building control activities. Your approach is customer-focused, ensuring high standards of service while maintaining excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing. You can work independently with minimal supervision, maintaining accurate records and adhering to industry standards. You possess a positive, proactive approach, demonstrating self-motivation, efficient problem-solving, and effective interpersonal skills. You are adept at managing change and working effectively within a team, using ICT skills for data management and communication. What the Job Involves The role demands undertaking technical assessments and ensuring compliance with health, safety, sustainability, and accessibility standards. You will manage a portfolio of domestic and low-risk non-domestic projects, conducting site inspections, plan appraisals, and implementing remedial actions. Enforce building regulations, investigate complaints, and partake in the "Out of Hours" rota to address urgent issues like dangerous structures. Act as a point of contact for advice and support, providing guidance within your competence limits and seeking assistance from senior colleagues when necessary. Supervise and support trainees and assistants, delegating tasks such as plan checking and site inspections while encouraging professional development. Maintain relationships with stakeholders, providing a seamless service and exploring new business opportunities to enhance the building control service. Respond flexibly to workload changes, adjusting priorities as required while contributing to the ISO 9001 registration and upholding corporate policies. Ensure adherence to the Council’s health and safety and information security policies, undertaking training as part of personal and professional growth.
