Job summary Matron for Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre This post provides strong leadership, visible, credible, senior nursing presence accessible to staff, patients and their families for advice, assistance and support. The post holder will be accountable for the delivery of optimum quality patient care in their area/s of responsibility, and in line with the ten key matron responsibilities outlined nationally. Supporting and developing the teams across the Bristol Haematology & Oncology Centre (BHOC) is critical to excellent standards of care. We are looking for an individual who can support, engage, inspire and develop the team enabling them to provide the highest quality of care to patients. The role of the Matron is fundamental to ensuring patients receive safe, high-quality care and a positive patient experience which is responsive to the needs of patients, families and their carers. We are seeking a senior nurse who has strong leadership skills and is passionate about delivering innovative practice. The post holder will need knowledge, skill and attention to detail to continue to support the substantive post holder to deliver real improvements in quality. Experience in cancer care would be welcome but not essential.Above all, we are looking for an individual who has a passion for making a difference and is committed to delivering excellent patient care in a safe environment. This position is part time (0.5wte) Main duties of the job The BHOC matron is an integral part of the senior nursing team of the Division of Specialised Services, working closely with the matrons of the Bristol Heart Institute, and joining the Duty Matron rota for the Division. There are three matrons at BHOC who have professional oversight he following clinical areas: two inpatient wards (broadly divided into Oncology and Haematology including Stem Cell Transplant & CAR-T therapy), a Teenage and Young Adult cancer Unit, a joint Haematology and Oncology Same Day Emergency Centre (SDEC), Rapid Access Day treatment area, a joint Haematology and Oncology day unit delivering SACT treatments, 2 satellite units in South and North Bristol, delivering SACT treatments, line care, venesection and phlebotomy and an Outpatient Department providing outpatient consultations, phlebotomy and non-SACT supportive treatments. You will be a dynamic senior nurse with excellent clinical, managerial and leadership skills who will act as a role model to peers and colleagues. You will be committed to identifying and pursuing opportunities for service development, ensuring there is a strong patient voice in all improvement initiatives to enhance patient experience and that the Trust values underpin everything you do.
