Job summary The Department of Laboratory Haematology are looking appoint an enthusiastic, motivated Laboratory Technical Officer (Band 3) to support the delivery of services within our exciting University Health Board. The Haematology and Medical Biochemistry & Toxicology Laboratories provide a diagnostic service for the City of Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan and provides tertiary services for the larger population of South Wales and beyond. The departments are seeking to increase the team of Laboratory Technical Officers to provide a 24/7 service mainly within University Hospital Llandough with additional duties at University Hospital of Wales and Velindre Hospital. Initially, the service will support the Haematology Laboratory with further training being provided to include Medical Biochemistry in phase two. Previous experience in the NHS is an advantage. Please check current UK Government visa rules before applying, if applicable. Main duties of the job The post holder will provide diagnostic services across Cardiff and Vale. At University Hospital Llandough, this will beby utilising the automated analysers with results produced being authorised by Biomedical Scientist staff at University Hospital of Wales who would provide remote supervision. There will be a shift system in place to provide support during day shifts and for an overnight service at both UHW and UHL. The shift times will be both 07:30 to 20:00 and 19:30 to 08:00 as a roster. Rotation will also see shifts at Velindre Hospital to facilitate a 07:30 to 20:00 service. As the service is constantly evolving and reacting to demands, shifts requirements may adapt accordingly.
