Highly Specialised Adult Diabetes Dietitian
This role is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated dietitian with an interest in adult diabetes dietetics, excellent communication skills, and a passion for patient-centered care.
As the successful candidate, you will be based at the Royal Berkshire Hospital providing a specialist dietetic input into complex adult patients living with diabetes, working closely with your MDT colleagues including consultants, psychologists, and specialist nurses.
This role will provide you with excellent and supported professional and personal development. As part of the team, you will have opportunities to be involved with the training of dietetic students, other dietitians, and healthcare professionals. There are also opportunities to get involved with audit, research, and service development.
You would be joining a team of over 30 committed and welcoming dietitians, who work in a range of specialist areas at the Royal Berkshire Hospital. Reading is the largest town in the UK with great shopping, nightlife, restaurants, and London is less than half an hour by train.
We are a forward-thinking department that has a strong focus on a patient-centered service. We encourage service development and have an established quality improvement programme driving the service forward.
Part-time (20.25 hours) hours are available for this role.

Main duties of the job
You will be based at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading, working closely with the consultants and specialist nurses to assess and advise patients. Our service uses a range of consultation settings to support our patients at all stages along their treatment pathway. Some of the areas of work include:
1. Being part of the MDT in assessing nutritional status
2. Advising and supporting patients in outpatient settings
3. Supporting the training of dietetic students
4. Supporting peers with specialist knowledge
5. Implementing Quality Improvement programme to lead service development

Person Specification
Education/Qualifications/Training
* Recognised Nutrition and Dietetic Degree in Dietetics or equivalent
* Current State Registration
* Member of the British Dietetic Association
* Member of a relevant Specialist Interest Group
* Evidence of postgraduate learning in diabetes and or experience equivalent to that gained at masters level
Continuous Professional Development
* Evidence of CPD
* Have completed or interested in Facilitating Learning during Practice Placements (Clinical Supervisory Skills) course.
* Have completed or interested in: Training on using diets in management of diabetes
* Have completed or interested in: Advanced Behaviour Change training
Previous Experience
* Experience in applying the dietetic process to include dietetic assessment, interpretation, individual care planning, motivation, monitoring, and evaluation of highly specialised dietetic treatments
* Experience of working with a diverse range of groups e.g. patients, general public, colleagues etc.
* Have planned, delivered and evaluated training sessions
* An involvement in the training of student dietitians
* Experience of producing complex dietetic resources e.g. leaflets, diet sheets, posters etc.
* Involvement in the planning, adapting, diet coding, evaluation, and implementation of institutional menus.
* Experience of undertaking risk assessments
* At least 4 years experience as a practising Dietitian, 2 of which should be in the field of diabetes
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
* IT Literate
* Knowledge of professional codes of conduct and professional guidelines.
* Knowledge of National and local guidance relevant to the specialty area and appreciation of how this impacts on dietetics
* Ability to communicate complex and sensitive information, verbally and written to patients/carers and a range of healthcare and other professionals.
* Skills in motivation and counselling.
* Ability to make suggestions and self-adjust working practice on the basis of internal clinical audit.
* Ability to use reflection as a tool for professional development
Additional Requirements
* Willingness to work flexible hours
* Able to easily and efficiently travel to clinical sites, patient's homes, and training venues across the county, to provide a dietetic service
* Member of the relevant BDA specialist interest group.
