Embedded Systems Engineer (Technical Lead) Staffordshire, UK £55-65k + benefits
This role would probably suit an engineer with 6-8 years of industry experience. A background in design / development or systems engineering would be preferred (e.g. electronics, software, mechatronics etc) ideally gained within the automotive, avionics, aerospace or similar industry.
Location: Office based, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire
The role is aligned to the design and development of advanced electronics control systems for off-highway machinery and will involve technically leading a small team. Furthermore, your role will involve the development of technical and product requirements, technical specifications and validation plans. In addition, you will coordinate team activities and assist with project management of the projects you are responsible for delivering. Candidates with experience gained within the automotive or off-highway industries could do well.
Required experience: Embedded Systems Engineer
* Full lifecycle (V model) systems engineering activities
* Capture and development of customer requirements into functional requirements and specifications
* Oversee systems integration activities (which may include some hands-on involvement)
* Development of test and validation requirements
* Technical leadership with the ability to coordinate activities and lead projects
* Strong understanding of electronics systems and embedded technologies
* Some experience with embedded software or model-based development would be great (Matlab / Simulink)
* Automotive or off-highway product design and process knowledge would be useful
The role could involve hands-on design or including integration activities (hardware / embedded software) but is intended to be aligned to technical leadership and project delivery.
Further qualifications / experience: Embedded Systems Engineer
* 6-8 years of post-academic experience gained within the automotive, aerospace, electronics, mechatronics, or other similar product development environment.
* A degree in a relevant field (e.g. electronics, computer science, mechatronics, automotive engineering)
* Product engineering experience and ability having spent time on the design, development or test of complex electromechanical systems based on embedded systems
* A strong appreciation of systems design, the systems engineering cycle (V model) and capturing requirements from customers.
* Good practical engineering aptitude (e.g. software or hardware integration, hands-on problem solving, development of systems in a lab / workshop)
* Strong communication, organisation and practical skills and be proactive, adaptable and keen to learn.
* Formal training within systems engineering would be useful
* Evidence of innovation and creative problem solving for relevant engineering projects would be great
* Experience with embedded software development (embedded C) or model-based software development (Matlab / Simulink) would be useful
* Network systems / protocols – e.g. CAN, Ethernet, CANalyzer, CANoe or CANape
* Problem solving and analysis (FMEA, FTA, 8D)
