Full time role
Our Specialist SEN Branch at Teaching Personnel is working in partnership with a school in the centre of Newport to recruit a number of 121 Support Assistants ahead of the Spring term. You will be tasked with providing 121 Support for children who have a wide range of Additional Learning Needs to access learning in a way that best suits them. This school caters for individuals with Additional Needs such as Autistic Spectrum Disorder, including children who are non-verbal and have sensory processing requirements. As we know, the spectrum is diverse, so building a relationship with the child will be essential in progressing their Educational, Communicational, Social, Emotional, and Behavioural needs.
The Successful 121 Support Assistant will:
1. Promote the independence, inclusion, and equality of children with sensory impairment, medical needs, behaviour difficulties, or communication disorders within a classroom setting.
2. Establish productive working relationships with pupils, acting as a role model while motivating pupils and reinforcing self-esteem.
3. Assist with the development of the personal needs of children who have complex needs and those who display behaviour or social challenges and communication difficulties.
4. Promote independence to prepare the young people for the future.
If you have a background in residential care, medical care, or have experience with challenging behaviour, this could be an ideal opportunity for you. If you are worried that you haven't had specific experience working with children who have Additional Learning Needs, please do not worry, as we are interested in speaking with people from all walks of life.
