Position: Special Needs Teaching Assistant
Location: Sheffield
Tenure: Full-time, temp to perm
Axcis Education are currently recruiting for an experienced special needs teaching assistant to work in a 1:1 and whole class setting for a lovely primary school in Sheffield, South Yorkshire with a high percentage of special needs pupils.
You will be required, under the instruction of the class teacher, to support pupils on an individual 1:1 basis with their learning and emotional needs and will also be required to assist in whole class settings, ensuring that the classroom is prepared for lessons and supporting in keeping pupils on track with their learning.
This is a full-time position working Monday to Friday 8:30 – 15:30 and offers the chance to become a permanent position after 16 weeks.
The position will involve:
1. Preparing the classroom as directed by the class teacher
2. Accurately updating pupil records
3. Assisting with planning lessons for individual pupils
4. Working closely with the teacher to manage behaviour and reporting difficulties
5. Supervising and providing support for pupils, including those with special needs
6. Establishing good relationships with pupils and acting as a role model
7. Promoting inclusion and acceptance of all pupils
You will need:
1. Experience of working in a similar setting ideally with SEND/SEMH pupils aged 5-11 with autism, ADHD, and challenging behaviour.
2. A genuine passion for supporting pupils to achieve their learning and emotional support needs
3. Enhanced DBS registered on the update service – we can support with processing a new DBS
4. At least 2 years references
5. Right to work in the UK
