Job Introduction
BBC Radio Solent is looking for a journalist – an audio content producer – to join its talented team of broadcast journalists at our studios in Southampton. Serving a TSA of almost two million people across Hampshire, Dorset and the Isle of Wight, BBC Radio Solent reflects the lives of the counties’ residents in everything we do.
We’re looking for accomplished all-rounders in a role where, as one of the station’s audio journalists, you’ll have experience of setting up and producing great radio, or be a skilled reporter who originates original stories - you might also be skilled in news reading, or creating digital audio content for online platforms.
We’d like candidates to submit a recent example of some reporting – within the last 12 months.
Main Responsibilities
* Creativity and storytelling are essential core skills. In this role you will tell stories from across Hampshire, Dorset and the Isle of Wight in a dynamic way that will engage with our audience.
* No two days are ever the same. One day, you might be setting up programme content, the next you could be studio producing a live show. You may also find yourself reading bulletins on the radio and for our smart-speaker service.
* You will be skilled in coming up with creative content that engages with the communities and residents of the South and be able to share those stories in a variety of ways, not just on the radio, but on digital platforms as well.
* You will consistently achieve high journalistic standards and observe the BBC Editorial Guidelines.
Are you the right candidate?
* You’ll be a team player and you’ll be brimming with ideas on news stories to share with the residents of the South.
* You’ll understand how to tell a story in a way in which our listeners can understand and engage with it.
* You’ll be thinking about how to add value to an item using social media.
* You will work alongside the wider BBC South news operation where we are establishing new workflows, so adaptability and teamwork will be essential, as are excellent communication skills.
This job will involve shift and/or weekend working. The contractual base will be BBC Radio Solent (Southampton), with variable hours.
