Main duties of the job
The department is split over two sites and successful applicants may be expected to rotate between sites. The department currently offers a physiological led loop implantation and is looking at developing further physiologist advanced roles.
Applicants must have relevant cardiac rhythm management experience and be British Heart Rhythm Accredited with the ability to work independently for a Band 7 role or working towards this accreditation for a Band 6 position, which will be achieved within 18 months before moving to a Band 7.
The department currently offers an on-call service and the successful candidate would be part of this rota. We are a flexible department with both part/full time hours available.
Job responsibilities
Band 6
* Participate in the delivery of a specialist clinical service and deliver a high standard of care to all patients.
* Participate in the on-call rota, providing a 24-hour emergency service for cardiac pacing /ICD problems for adult and paediatric patients.
* Rotate through specialist sections of the Cardiac Rhythm Management department and CIED catheter laboratory to build and maintain a body of specialist knowledge and apply this to practice.
* Continue theoretical and practical training via experiential learning and designated advanced course attendances to develop in your specialist area of practice.
* Contribute to the delivery of training within the department.
Band 7
* Deliver a highly specialist clinical service in the CRM department.
* Deliver highly specialist knowledge, implantation and follow-up clinics of multisite pacemakers and devices.
* Work as an independent Cardiac Scientist to deliver a high standard of care to all patients, utilising evidence-based practice to optimise service provision.
* Communicate complex information regarding CIED therapies to the wider MDT, providing support for those with specialist and non-specialist knowledge.
* Availability to participate in an on-call rota providing a 24-hour emergency service for CIED implant and follow up, troubleshooting device issues for both adult and paediatric patients.
Person Specification
Meets All Band 6 Criteria
Essential
* BSc (Hons) or working toward MSc in Healthcare sciences (Cardiology) (via Practitioner Training Programme (PTP) or on the Scientist training programme (STP), or with equivalent experience.
* Immediate Life Support certification.
* Post-qualification experience as a Cardiac Physiologist with evidence of continuing professional development and demonstrable competency in: Ability to interpret to an expert level, both adult and paediatric ECG data and write a report of findings on GP and open access ECGs, as well as supporting medical staff in expert analysis of complex ECG traced.
* Good interpersonal and communication skills.
* Availability for on-call work.
Desirable
* Advanced Life Support Resuscitation Certificate.
Meets All Band 7 Criteria
Essential
* BSc in Healthcare Science (Cardiology) or equivalent, or MSc in Cardiac Science with HCPC registration, or working to Master's level in Cardiac Sciences, hold an equivalent qualification or have equivalent experience.
* State registration with the Academy of Healthcare Science (AHCS), Registration Council for Clinical Physiologists (RCCP) or Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC).
* A postgraduate professional qualification, in either British Heart Rhythm Society (BHRS) in Cardiac Implantable Electronic Devices (CIEDs) (examination and completed logbook), or international board of heart rhythm examiners (IBHRE) qualification.
* Good interpersonal and communication skills.
