Role Reporting directly to the Credit Assessment Section Manager, you will be working in a small but highly motivated team of Credit Assessment Specialists. As a specialist in Credit Assessment, you will work with a high degree of accuracy, expertise, and due regard to responsible lending requirements. You will be completing a full review of circa 100 applications per day for Honda’s Car and Bike customers, managing the volumes that are received by the New Business Department alongside your colleagues. Each review will culminate in a decision or recommendation that will need to be backed-up with a thorough rationale and evidence. Working with our fraud tools, you will be recognising key indicators of potential fraud and financial crime and then investigating them further to identify any risks. Where necessary, AML Suspicions and CIFAS forms will be raised. As a specialist making these important decisions, you will be working with Honda’s Retailer network and our Area Operations Managers to provide first-class support to them. Timely decisions will be expected but the avoidance of Customer harm must always be at the forefront of the mind for this role. Daily you will be managing a queue of applicants and customers who have been identified as being sanctioned or politically exposed in some way. Main Responsibilities Using a Scorecard grade-based system, in conjunction with credit reference and fraud data, assess applications for finance. Circa 100 cases per day, for balances more than 40K. Use good attention to detail to ensure your decisions meet the lending criteria, and good judgment to recommend going outside those criteria, when appropriate. Review customer open banking data in order to ensure they can afford the proposed monthly commitment. Field calls from Area Operations Managers and Retailers with respect to the credit assessment process and the decisions made. Review potential Politically Exposed Persons and Sanctions to ensure legal and regulatory requirements are met around fraud and financial crime. Required Qualifications, skills and experience: Demonstratable experience of operating as a credit assessor (underwriter) in the motor finance industry or equivalent. Experience carrying out customer and enhance due diligence assessments. Particularly on PEP and Sanctions customers. Exceptional communication skills with an ability to succinctly capture the basis for a decision, including salient evidence. Able to demonstrate confident decision making and ability to filter large amounts of information into the key drivers of any decision. Desirable Recently in possession of a credit assessment mandate to decision balances in excess of 40K. Familiar with FCA regulatory sourcebook CONC. Experience working in a customer facing area. Strong numeracy skills. Team player who is flexible with their shifts.
