The post is a Senior Clinical Fellow in Emergency Medicine, contracted for 40 hours with some opportunity paid additional hours via staff bank in both the Emergency Department at Royal Blackburn Hospital and the Urgent Treatment Centre at Burnley General Hospital
These posts are designed to attract those doctors who wish to settle in an area for a five year period and advance their career in Emergency Medicine. Although posts are for 24 months, they are the stepping stone for gaining the skills required to become a Specialty Doctor in Emergency Medicine.
Successful applicants will populate a 24 hour senior clinical fellow grade rota. Competency documentation will be completed based on the Royal College of Emergency Medicine training syllabus and each post holder will have an emergency medicine educational supervisor and a clinical supervisor for each secondment. Post holders will be encouraged to pass the MRCEM exam if not already qualified.
Each appointee will have an individualised personal development plan according to need.
For entry at Senior Clinical Fellow level, applicants should preferably have significant experience in Emergency Medicine. They should have completed as a minimum two years of full-time regular hospital service following completion of Foundation Training, of which one year should be in Emergency Medicine, and the remainder in relevant other specialties.
The successful candidate will be employed on a full shift system with no on-call commitment. The shifts include night and weekend working. The successful candidate is expected to be resident in the department when on duty, including night shifts.

We have a total of 1041 beds:
· 709 beds at Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital
· 240 beds at Burnley General Teaching Hospital
· 32 beds at Clitheroe Community Hospital
· 67 beds at Pendle Community Hospital
The Emergency Department (ED) in Blackburn is the only ED for East Lancashire and since 2012 has become a Trauma Unit in the Lancashire Trauma Network with the Trauma Centre at the Royal Preston Hospital. The ED is supported by a co-located Urgent Treatment Centre at Blackburn, a Urgent Treatment Centre in Burnley and a Minor Injuries Unit in Accrington.
The Trust runs numerous department; the Emergency Department (ED) and co-located Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) is based on the Royal Blackburn site. The Burnley site has a 24 hour Urgent Treatment Centre. Our Minor Injuries Unit is based in Accrington and is lead by Emergency Nurse Practitioners and First Contact Physiotherapists. The post holder would be expected to rotate across the Royal Blackburn ED and Burnley UTC. The Emergency Department also has a small Paediatric Emergency Department. There is on site Consultant supervision from 08:00-01:30 following which the department has resident Tier 4 Emergency Department doctors leading the shift. The Consultant on-call is available by telephone for advice after 01:30 or will attend the department as required.
There are currently 18 Consultants and two Specialists who work on the Consultant Rota in post in the unit.

Burnley UTC is lead by two Consultant General Practitioners, Dr Zulfikar Aslam and Dr Raju Uppalapati.
Other Clinicians include 4 higher specialist trainees, 28 speciality doctors, 57 junior doctors made up of ACCS & GP trainees, junior clinical fellow and foundation year 1 and 2 doctors. We also have Advanced Care Practitioners, Emergency Nurse Practitioners, Physicians Associates and First Contact Physiotherapists. We train staff of all grades and have medical students of various years from UCLAN and Lancaster University in the department.
