If so, we'd love to hear from you About the team The Climate and Environment Team (CET) acts as the focal point for HM Treasury’s work on climate change, net zero and the natural environment. We advance HM Treasury interests across some of the biggest policy opportunities and challenges facing the UK including climate mitigation and adaptation, decarbonising heat and industry and water company regulation. About the role As a Policy Adviser you will lead on our carbon budget delivery and collaborate closely with other government departments to develop and implement plans to achieve our legal climate commitments. You will play a vital role in ensuring teams across HM Treasury integrate climate impact considerations into their policymaking and advice to ministers. Key accountabilities include: Developing expertise on carbon budget policy and delivery, developing knowledge on the most efficient pathways to decarbonisation, and monitoring the progress of net zero policies. Building and maintaining constructive relationships. Developing a network across HM Treasury, other government departments, and externally to: a) work with DESNZ to ensure the Government’s strategy for achieving Net Zero prioritises delivering growth and value for money and, b) Support wider HM Treasury teams to ensure their policymaking aligns with the Governments Net Zero objectives and Clean Energy Mission. Utilising excellent written and verbal communication skills to respond to correspondence and write and deliver briefings and advice to Senior Civil Servants and Ministers. About you You don’t need to be a policy professional, have any specific qualifications, or prior experience/knowledge of these policy areas to apply for this role. You will be well supported by line management and the wider team, and training on spending control and reviewing business cases will be provided.
