Theatre Senior Health Care Support Worker
This post is fixed term / secondment until 24.01.2026 due to the needs of the service.

The post holder will support existing health care staff in delivering a safe and efficient service in a caring environment which supports professional and service development. The post holder will be expected to ensure that each patient received into the reception area undergoes all relevant checks prior to being transferred into the operating theatre.
To control the dispatch of each patient to the correct operating theatre, ensuring all relevant information is communicated to the practitioner receiving handover of care.
Main duties of the job
1. Receive patients from the ward nurse/pilot nurse into reception and demonstrate a clear understanding of the information received.
2. Ensure patient's documentation supports safeguards and immediately bring any discrepancies or concerns to the attention of the practitioner in charge of the relevant theatre.
3. Ensure patient's safety at all times during their stay in reception and ensure that all information is passed over to and understood by the receiving practitioner.
4. Accurately input information onto the computerised Theatre Information Systems.
5. Manage the operating list file with the theatre receptionist so that all lists are current and accurate and all relevant areas have received copies.
6. General observation within the reception area regarding stock control, general tidiness and cleanliness.
7. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Job responsibilities
1. Communication and Team Working
2. To undertake allocated tasks within the plan of care as identified by the nurse in charge and in accordance with Betsi Cadwalder Policy and Procedures.
3. Exchange factual information with patients using reassurance, tact, empathy and to overcome communication barriers.
4. Ensure the comfort and consideration of the patient and his/her family or friends and relate with kindness and empathy.
5. Participate and co-operate with the nursing team and other disciplines to contribute to the effectiveness of the multidisciplinary team as a whole.
6. Improve quality of service by generating and sharing good practices and discuss possible ways of improvement with the team.
7. Assist theatre receptionist with the control of visitors to the theatre and provide cover for theatre receptionist when absent including general clerical duties.

12. Communicate basic information to patients and carers with reassurance, tact and sensitivity.
13. Undertake general observation of patients when required e.g. blood pressure and blood glucose measurements.
14. Report to the Registered Practitioner and/or Clinical Team any changes in condition or behaviour of the patients.
15. Display sensitivity to the individual needs of the patient whilst preserving dignity and respecting confidentiality.
16. Work closely with the Nursing Team and other disciplines to ensure that optimum patient care is provided, referring as appropriate to other team members.
17. Control the reception environment, ensuring that it is suitable for receiving and holding patients e.g. keeping noise level to a minimum.
18. Manage the operating list file with the theatre receptionist so that all lists are current and accurate and all relevant areas have received copies.
19. Undertake tasks assigned by the Registered Practitioner, informing him/her if delegated tasks are beyond the post holder's level of competence.
Person Specification
Experience
* Experience of working within a team
* 6 months experience in care work
* Worked in a theatre/hospital setting
Qualifications
* Good general standard of education
* NVQ level 3 in care or relevant
