We are looking for an Engineer to join our track systems team involved in the installation, commissioning, and operation of Track Systems fibre infrastructure.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Assist in the commissioning, configuration, and monitoring of the optical system for the broadcast, IT, and communications network.
2. Act as an Event lead, ensuring that technical deliverables are met to the highest standards while ensuring a proactive and collaborative team environment.
3. Operate as a subject matter expert for the Ciena 6500 OTN (Optical Transport Network).
4. Support and liaise with other departments/customers to fault-find problems or provide solutions to requests as they arise.
5. Work with Senior Engineers to take ownership of business areas and operational relationships, acting as a point of contact for technical advice, fault reporting, and repair feedback.
6. Optically test, inspect, and commission the fibre optic infrastructure at F1 events using optical test equipment and end-face cleaning procedures.
7. Work within project design, providing implementation and documentation to the highest standards, ensuring reliable and resilient technical solutions.
8. Represent the team and its systems in technical meetings.
9. Mentor and develop technicians within the team.
10. Provide first-hand support for track-side systems including track cameras, FIA marshalling, telemetry, data acquisition, timing, paddock systems, and F1 team integration.
11. Collaborate with stakeholders and team members to optimise technical solutions while utilising existing available resources.
12. Undertake race event preparatory work and liaise with F1 departments to ensure race planning is completed in adequate time.
13. Provide support to test, service, and terminate single-mode fibre using a variety of connectors.
14. Be confident in general wiring practices and termination of data/power cables when required.
15. Take ownership of systems to ensure that design and workflows are continually adapted to meet ever-changing business needs and make the most of technical advances.
16. Keep an interest in new technologies and developments related to Track Systems, including contributing to system design and project team involvement.
17. Ensure the upkeep of equipment lists/manifests and liaise with the freight department, ordering new consumables and technical products when requested.
About You
1. A degree in broadcasting/telecommunication engineering discipline or relevant experience with actual experience in technical broadcasting/communication systems.
2. HNC/HND in broadcasting/telecommunications/general engineering.
3. Knowledge of fibre optical technologies including the testing, servicing, and termination of optical fibre using a variety of connectors, including OTDR testing, fusion splicing, fibre termination, and installation of fibre optic cable.
4. Proven history of system design and implementation.
5. Previous project experience.
6. Experienced in TCP/IP Ethernet networks and configuring switches on a LAN network.
7. Ability to perform in-depth root cause analysis of system workflow and equipment faults and revert to first principles when necessary if faced with an unknown situation.
8. Experience with configuration and use of OTN systems.
9. Proven experience and understanding of technical wiring diagrams.
10. Capable of performing rig and de-rig duties as required for a team member.
11. A systematic approach to fault finding.
12. Ability to think on your feet, an efficient problem-solver.
13. Excellent communication skills both written and spoken.
14. MS Windows literate, particularly in Word and Excel.
15. Maintain a clean and presentable work environment.
16. Ability to work unaided to perform daily tasks, testing, and small projects on technical systems using approved guidelines.
17. Honesty, initiative, diligence, and attention to detail are expected at all times.
18. Good communication skills; able to explain information to technical and non-technical audiences.
19. Self-motivated, with a passion for the job, and able to follow tasks through to the end without having to be driven.
