The Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) is one of the nine councils in UK Research and Innovation (UKRI). This role is responsible for the provision of professional financial management support to an STFC Science or Technology Department. As a Management Accountant, the post-holder will work as part of the UKRI Finance Directorate, reporting to a Senior Finance Business Partner, to support departmental preparation of budgeting, forecasting and reporting of programme and capital expenditure, completion of financial month end processes, and preparation of FEC costings for projects and grants. In addition, you will be expected to: Build and maintain good working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders, developing and influencing a strong network to facilitate effective working relationships. Provide constructive ideas for improvement in processes and procedures. Provide management information to support departmental managers and senior finance colleagues in their day to day decision making. Manage cost centre and project structures, ensuring that these are effective in managing and accounting for the business. Understand Capital additions, impact on the Financial Accounts and Capital outturn; Advise project managers on costing and pricing project proposals in accordance with UKRI policy and other financial aspects of project proposal preparation. Ensure your professional conduct is in accordance with professional accounting bodies' code of ethics and UKRI policies. Person Specification Essential criteria Studying towards AAT, ACCA or CIMA, or 5 years of Management Accounting or Finance Business Partnering experience Well-developed organisational, time management and motivational skills Ability to exercise judgement on financial issues Effective interpersonal skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to present financial information effectively to non-finance staff in a variety of meeting settings both formal and informal A very strong focus on prioritising the customer and excellent ability to gain their trust and support Very strong focus on proactivity, positive solutions and continuous improvement Strong Team player This job description is intended to provide a broad outline of the main duties and responsibilities only.
