Job overview
The Section Head will be based full time in the Maternity Building and managing the specialist high dependency technical support to all areas of the Neo Natal Unit and Women's & Children's services. Carrying out procedures that will be highly complex and non-routine. He/she will have technical responsibility for managing the broad range of work provided by the High Dependency 3 Team of Clinical Technologist, working to extremely high standards of patient/staff safety involving high level of skill and knowledge.
The clinically based Technologist, working closely with patients will provide the necessary expertise to support the medical and nursing staff where advanced technology and complex techniques are being used.
The service will normally be provided up to 7 days per week, with on call and overtime as necessary with the post holder expected to demonstrate flexibility and a willingness to negotiate flexible working hours as appropriate.
Main duties of the job
The post holder has management responsibility for the technical support provided to NNU/W&C speciality. He/she will have technical responsibility for the broad range of work provided, and will be expected to work to a high level of skill. The majority of his/her work will be on highly complex patient critical medical devices, which incorporate multi inter-related systems. He/she will liaise closely with the senior staff of the Medical Physics & Clinical Engineering Department. Particular responsibility will be the need to establish and maintain effective professional links with clinical users of the technical service within NNU/W&C. He/she may also be required to assist in other areas of the High Dependency Groups. He/she will be expected to optimise these services, and will ensure that the high skill levels required are deployed in a cost effective manner. He/she will be involved in training, and there will be an administrative content within his/her work in line with Resource Management arrangements. When required, support will be available at any time from the Medical Physics & Clinical Engineering Department. He/she should have properly insured personal transport available to participation in the on-call rota also occasionally may require working off site carrying tools/test equipment/medical devices. The work may include duties on all Trust sites and other health care providers.
