Role Overview: The role involves managing and operating a modern commercial electronics EMC test laboratory, encompassing a diverse range of tests related to electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). The individual will have the opportunity to lead the growth and development of the facility to meet evolving EMC compliance requirements. The responsibilities also extend to providing compliance consultancy and testing services for a variety of products across different industries.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Test Laboratory Management:
o Oversee various EMC tests, including radiated emissions, conducted emissions, ESD, radiated immunity, and more.
o Direct the growth and development of the facility in response to changes in the EMC compliance landscape.
2. Compliance Consultancy and Testing:
o Conduct compliance consultancy and testing for a range of products, such as laboratory equipment, lighting, medical devices, renewable energy products, IT equipment, control panels/machinery, and consumer electronics.
o Guide customers through the EMC compliance process, from project scope definition to test planning and execution.
3. Customer Interaction:
o Liaise with customers, both remotely and in person, to address technical setup and testing issues.
o Host customers attending testing at the facility and assist with troubleshooting non-compliance issues.
4. Documentation and Reporting:
o Write technical reports and review engineer's reports, ensuring comprehensive documentation of test evidence.
o Adhere to ISO9001 and ISO17025 practices in documenting and reporting.
5. Training and Development:
o Train new engineers/technicians and prepare training materials.
o Conduct gap analysis reviews of existing test reports and new standards.
6. Commercial Support:
o Support the commercial team with EMC-related sales queries.
o Participate in trade and regulatory group proceedings to stay informed about industry developments.
7. Director Liaison and Business Development:
o Collaborate with company directors to identify new sales opportunities and contribute to the development of the EMC facility.
8. Calibration and Verification:
o Handle chamber and equipment calibration using third-party service providers.
o Perform various in-service test equipment verification checks.
Experience and Qualifications:
* Experience: A minimum of 4 years' experience in EMC testing, with a demonstrated ability to produce testing reports to specified standards.
* Customer Interaction: Experience in a customer-facing role is beneficial.
* Problem Solving: Ability to identify and rectify EMC failures.
* Regulatory Awareness: Familiarity with the Radio Equipment Directive and its implications for products incorporating radio modules.
* Enthusiasm: Demonstrable enthusiasm and interest in the subject of EMC testing.
* Technical Understanding: A good understanding of various EMC tests and the underlying principles.
