The role
As a Engineering Manager, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. You will have the opportunity to work on some of the most high-profile and complex engineering projects helping shape the design, build, transition into-service and support arrangements of future Royal Navy submarines.
Day-to-day, you'll be responsible for the delivery of outputs against the Future Submarine portfolio including Dreadnaught, SSNA and AUKUS. Your key responsibilities will include;
1. Provide support for the Dreadnought and SSNA Programme in Systems and Equipment Assessment, focusing on transition into service and design lifecycle.
2. Lead and develop a team of Waterfront Engineers/Subject Matter Experts, ensuring SMART tasking for platform transition and design influence.
3. Integrate in-service learning (LfE) into the business/design programme.
4. Support technical reviews and working groups for both programmes.
5. Grow and develop the Waterfront team and capability at Devonport for future submarine platform requirements.
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2 days in the office/onsite and 3 days working from home. Occasional travel is required to Bristol, Barrow-in Furness and Faslane, Helensburgh.
Essential experience of the Engineering Manager
6. Experience in delivering in-service maintenance periods, ideally from operations groups like production, commissioning, or the Royal Navy.
7. Proven track record of leading multi-discipline teams.
8. Skilled in solving complex engineering problems with credible solutions.
9. Excellent communication skills, capable of articulating complex arguments to diverse stakeholders.
10. Demonstrated motivation to drive issues to completion and commitment to ongoing professional development.
Qualifications for the Engineering Manager
11. Degree-level education or equivalent qualifications with significant vocational experience.
12. Chartered status or working towards it, registered with a relevant engineering or management institute, as part of continuous professional development.
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) / Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
