Job summary We are looking for a hardworking, enthusiastic and experienced Healthcare Assistant to join our friendly and supportive nursing team. Main duties of the job The Healthcare Assistant will work alongside registered nurses and other members of the healthcare team to provide direct patient care. They will assist with various aspects of patient care, such as BPs, B12 injections, ear irrigation, ECGs, blood clinics, dressing wounds and various other responsibilities About us Newton Place Surgery is set in the beautiful market town of Faversham in the countryside of Kent. The practice has good transportation links, being less than 320m from Faversham train station and not far from the M2 turn-off. Newton Place Surgery is one of seven practices that form Mid Kent PCN. The PCN has a population of almost 100k, making it one of the largest PCNs in East Kent. The practice has the support of a large clinical team, which includes allied health professionals such as Mental Health Practitioner, First Contact Practitioners, ANPs, Paramedic Practitioners, Clinical Pharmacists and GP Assistants. We offer a variety of additional on-site services such as ultrasound, audiology, physiotherapy, womens health, minor surgery, ECGs, and spirometry and we are also a covid vaccination site. We are also a training practice that hosts ST2, ST3, medical students, paramedics, and student nurses. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels: Undertake new patient and NHS Health Checks Support the Practice Nurse with health promotion programmes Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximitery, blood pressure, temperature and pulse rate, recording findings accurately Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required Support the Practice Nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics such as diabetic foot checks Carry out BMI checks as directed Assist in minor surgery Act as a chaperone as required Phlebotomy Administer flu and/ or pneumonia vaccinations under PSD Undertake ECGs as requested Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with extant guidance Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the organisations IPC policy Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate Assist in leg ulcer clinic Undertake spirometry Administer B12 injections under PSD Undertake ear checks and irrigation Job description Job responsibilities The following are the core responsibilities of the Healthcare Assistant.
