Staff Nurse
To assist the Senior Cath Lab nurses in the development of Cardiology services within Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust.
To work closely with the Cath Lab and Cardiology Practitioners to deliver a high quality cardiothoracic service.
To promote multidisciplinary teamwork within the Cath Labs.
To provide clinical nursing expertise ensuring the highest possible standard of nursing care.
To participate in the development and implementation of directorate policy and nursing strategy.
To actively participate in the development of a Cardiology Department of excellence through planned educational programmes and the incorporation of research into practice.
Participate in an out of hours/on call rota for the provision of a nursing service within the Cath Labs.
Main duties of the job
1. Assessing patient’s individual needs, planning care within the framework of medical care, implementing and evaluating nursing care for all patients undergoing interventional cardiology investigations and procedures.
2. Carrying out nursing procedures and interventions as required, in accordance with local and trust policies and in consultation with other members of the Healthcare team.
3. Promote multidisciplinary teamwork and ensure excellent communication skills with other members of the multidisciplinary team, patients and relatives.
4. To ensure that the highest standard of routine and emergency patient care is maintained at all times during procedures in the laboratory, pacing and recovery area.
5. To ensure the highest standards of asepsis both in the preparation for, and duration of clinical procedures.
6. To ensure that Health and Safety guidelines are adhered to within all areas.
7. You will learn to be a scrub, circulating and recovery nurse for all procedures.
8. To act as an advocate for patients, ensuring that their needs and opinions are represented in the delivery of the service.
9. Ensuring that all relevant information regarding the patient is communicated to nursing staff and to other disciplines as necessary and that the standard of documentation is maintained.

Qualifications
* Level 1 Registered Nurse with valid NMC registration / students pending registration
* Assessing & Mentoring qualification Commitment to obtain assessing / mentoring qualification
Experience
* A minimum of six months experience in an acute Trust within the last twelve months (this can include student placement)
* Experience within the speciality
Skills
* Understanding of evidence based practice to enhance care
* Understanding of professional and current issues in nursing.
* Understanding of the importance of research and evidence based practice
