Assistant Management Accountant
£25,000 - £35,000 (+ Benefits)
*External applicants on a fixed-term contract won’t be eligible for study support, however, internal Finance Trainee applicants will continue to receive study support on a fixed-term secondment.
Reports to: Finance Manager (Management Accounting)
Department: Chief Operating Office
Contract: 9 month fixed-term contract
Hours: Full time 35 hours per week
Location: Stratford, London. Office-based with high flexibility (1-2 days per week in the office).

Cancer Research UK’s Finance team’s credibility and professionalism in handling money fundraised by public generosity is essential to the smooth running and future ambitions of our organisation, ultimately helping the charity reach our goal of beating cancer. This role will sit within our Core Purpose Finance team as the Senior Finance Manager for our Scientific Research & Innovation (R&I) and Policy, Information & Communications (PIC) directorates.
As an Assistant Management Accountant, you will assist with management accounting general ledger transactions to produce accurate and timely management accounts and reporting for R&I and PIC, while working together with budget holders and finance colleagues to ensure the accounts are accurate and that financial controls are followed. Your legacy by the end of this contract will be to have played an essential role in supporting the smooth financial operations and commercial decision-making of R&I and PIC, ultimately helping to bring forward the day everybody can lead longer and better lives free from cancer.
If you are an accounting or transactional finance professional who is comfortable using Excel and has assisted in producing the monthly management accounts and month-end activities, we’d love for you to join our mission.
What will I be doing?
Financial Reporting:
* Supporting the Management Accounting team to deliver timely, high-quality, and accurate management accounts for the Scientific Research & Innovation (R&I) and Policy, Information & Communications (PIC) directorates.
* Reporting on headcount and supporting budget holders to understand variances.
* Supporting budget holders to interpret management information (including self-service accounts/transaction lists), and answer management accounts or budget queries.
* Acting as a key point of contact for business users of our Unit 4 Business World (Agresso) system.
Accounting and Year-End:
* Collaborating closely with the Management Accountants to ensure monthly transactions (e.g. accruals and prepayments) are processed accurately and on time.
* Taking ownership of a range of income and accounting adjustments as required.
* Looking for process efficiencies and improvements.
* Supporting the year-end audit and production of the annual report and accounts by processing transactions and supporting audit queries as required.
* Assisting with the team’s accounting system projects.
Financial Planning and Analysis:
* Supporting the financial planning process (for example by populating templates or checking and inputting data).
* Facilitating and supporting budget holders to complete headcount budgets and forecasts (including building templates/models and training users where needed).
* Supporting the Infor system implementation by testing data and verifying processes.
What skills will I need?
* Part qualified or Qualified by Experience (QBE) accounting or transactional finance professional who has assisted in producing the management accounts and delivering month-end activities.
* IT Literate and comfortable manipulating data in Excel.
o There will be an Excel exercise as part of the interview process which will assess your knowledge of Sumifs, Vlookups (or equivalent), and Pivot Tables.
* Can meet deadlines while maintaining strong attention to detail and effectively managing expectations.
* Demonstrates the ability to communicate well and build strong and collaborative relationships.
