An exciting new role has been commissioned to develop a Childrens Containment Products Service in the Dudley locality. The successful nurse will help to shape the service by identifying children at a young age who need additional support with their continence needs.
Main duties of the job
The role will involve assessing and reviewing children who require containment products where their long-term conditions may prevent full continence from being achieved.
Reviewing children that already receive products in order to evidence a medical need for usage and offer continence advice where appropriate.
To offer support and guidance to health professionals and school staff in the form of training or group work.
Job responsibilities
1. To support children and their families where it is anticipated there may be difficulties in toilet training (from 4 years).
2. To offer a comprehensive containment products assessment with planned review dates.
3. To support families already accessing products to review their needs.
4. To support and train other health professionals in promoting continence needs for children and young people.
Person Specification
Essential
* Registered Nurse
* Demonstrates experience for assessing, developing, implementing/reviewing specialist continence care programmes including both bladder and bowel care.
* Experience of implementing education and training programmes for a defined age group, carers and relevant community staff.
* Special knowledge in management of bladder and bowel conditions.
* Apply relevant research to ensure evidence-based practice.
* Effective written and oral communication skills.
* Use a varied array of skills to devise continence packages for children with learning disabilities, physical disabilities, communication disabilities, complex health care needs.
* Ability to use PC-based software programmes e.g. email, word.
* Ability to organise own workload and be responsible for managing time and resources effectively.
* Ability to plan and document care on an individual basis.
Desirable
* Evidence of ongoing professional development.
* Bladder and bowel related qualification.
* Extensive experience working with children.
* Extensive experience working in the community.
* Ability to develop audits/standard setting and develop guidelines/policies.
* Knowledge of children and young peoples division.
* Knowledge of standards, governance systems and clinical audit.
* Sound clinical knowledge of current issues affecting children with urology/gastroenterology conditions.
