City: STOKE ON TRENT
Operate a shift working pattern on a weekly basis:
06:30-14:30 Mon-Thurs, 06:30-14:00 Friday
08:00-16:00 Mon-Thurs, 08:00-15:30 Friday
The role is mainly for Plant vehicles and machinery from ride on mowers to JCB loaders also including trailer repairs.
Key accountabilities:
1. Carry out repairs and preventative maintenance in accordance with the laid down manufacturers specification, including fault finding and diagnostic testing to motor vehicles, contractors plant, and grounds machinery powered by gas, diesel oil, petrol or electricity together with associated equipment.
2. Carry out repairs including fault finding and diagnostic testing to vehicle/plant electrics, hydraulics, and pneumatics, especially those fitted to specialist vehicles such as refuse, road sweeper, gully vehicles, and buses.
3. Carry out repairs and modifications to vehicle bodywork, including general panel beating, engineering fabrication, design, redesign, and installation.
4. Complete general welding (gas, arc), brazing, and soldering as necessary.
5. Complete repairs using machine shop tools and equipment including general bench work.
6. Carry out vehicle safety inspections, in accordance with the Vehicle Inspectorate standards and guidelines, and to complete all relevant documentation accurately.
7. Prepare vehicles for, and drive to the Vehicle Inspectorate Test Station for Plating and Testing and to carry out minor adjustments which may be identified on this inspection as required.
8. Attend to vehicle/plant and equipment breakdowns, and effect roadside repairs or recovery to the Transport Workshops or Repair Agents, as directed by a Team Leader, Supervisor or his delegate.
9. Undertake general engineering work and fabrications when required.
Key requirements:
1. Hold a relevant qualification in Plant Motor Vehicle Technology equivalent to NVQ level 2/3.
2. Hold a VOSA recognised Certificate for Large Goods Vehicle Safety/Roadworthiness Inspections.
3. Must have an LGV category C Driving Licence and ideally category C+E Driving Licence.
4. Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of M.O.T. Testing, standards and procedures and be a qualified MOT inspector or actively in training as an MOT Inspector.
5. Must have a good knowledge of working on different types of agricultural vehicles and machinery.
6. Demonstrate a minimum of 2 years post qualification experience in vehicle or plant maintenance in a multidisciplinary workshop environment.
7. Demonstrate some experience of Supervising, motivating and controlling employees within the post holder's remit.
8. Should have some basic IT skills that can be developed and the ability to use pre-designed programmes on computing and associated equipment as a tool in the provision of the Vehicle and Plant Maintenance Service and the management of the Workshops.
