About the role:
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, as Head of Tax you will be responsible for the global tax strategy, increasing tax efficiency and ensuring compliance with all tax regulations and legislation. You will play an integral role in maximising shareholder value, working very closely with the CFO and other key senior stakeholders in the leadership team, regional business heads, group finance, private equity partners and external advisers.
Main responsibilities and duties:
* Oversight and the continuing development of the Group’s tax strategy
* Leading the tax planning and compliance considering the future strategy of the business, group policy and local regulations
* Providing oversight, advice, and support on all tax related matters to the overall worldwide Group
* Responsibility for effective and efficient management of the Group’s direct and indirect tax compliance within the UK, Europe and the associated America operations
* Reviewing and maintenance of the Group-wide transfer pricing position and related documentation
* Managing the Senior Accounting Officer documentation, including working with relevant teams in the business in the preparation and subsequent review of high-risk areas before presentation to CFO
* Evaluating the availability of and ensure the group takes advantage of relevant tax schemes where applicable e.g., patent box
* Monitoring, management and forecasting the Group’s overall effective tax rate to ensure efficient structuring of group operations, including identifying and recommending opportunities for improvement
* Supporting the HR department with technical tax advice on employment issues including working with HR and Operational staff on the corporate tax implications of cross border employee transfers or new hires
* Involvement on any tax projects both in the UK and overseas (e.g., transfer pricing, tax structures, corporate simplification, acquisition/disposal tax due diligence/support)
* Working closely with tax advisers to deliver M&A tax projects including deal execution, implementation, and integration
* Managing and maintaining relationships with external tax advisers
* Maintaining relationships and liaising with HMRC to manage investigations, claims and elections
About you:
This role would suit an individual with a strong technical tax background, probably operating at Senior Manager/Director level in Big 4 or in a similarly senior tax position ‘in-house’, who is looking for a hands-on role in a growing, fast-paced, private equity-backed business.
* Fully qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA or CTA)
* UK Corporation Tax experience, knowledge of reporting under UK GAAP and IFRS
* VAT, Transfer Pricing and UK Employment Taxes knowledge and experience
* International tax experience
* Extensive understanding of global taxation rules and ability to keep up to date on the ever-changing global tax landscape and how it may impact the company
* Some knowledge of pharmaceutical sector tax issues and the amortisation of IP would be a distinct advantage
* Strategic thinker with excellent technical knowledge
* Experience of achieving meaningful tax efficiency savings
* An eye for detail to appreciate the bigger picture
* Strong internal and external stakeholder management and relationship skills
