Interim Senior HR Advisor – Human Resources

Pay Rate: Up to £21.23 per hour PAYE depending on experience
Hours per week: 36 Monday – Friday, normal working hours
Role Length: This opening assignment is for 5-6 months
City: Oldham, Greater Manchester

The purpose of the role is to provide authoritative and timely information, advice and guidance to managers and employees across the team and proactively improve employee confidence, competence and performance.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Act as the first point of contact and provide first line advice and support to Managers and Head Teachers across #TeamOldham on a range of HR enquiries, in accordance with the relevant legislation, policy and practice.
2. Maintain effective customer relationships and service by providing proactive and timely advice and supporting management to take appropriate action in accordance with Workforce Strategy and the service level agreement for schools.
3. Manage efficiently and effectively a “professional caseload” ensuring work is organised, prioritised and delivered.
4. Provide professional advice and guidance across multiple sets of terms and conditions of employment and pay scales.
5. Log and record casework outcomes for future service evaluation and improvement.
6. Provide professional advice to HR colleagues on casework e.g. Disciplinary, Capability, Grievance, Redundancy, Medical Incapacity.
7. Support and contribute ideas to the shaping and improvement of the HR/OD Service.
8. Provide guidance to managers in the preparation of the management case for presentation at Hearings, in relation to discipline, grievance, capability, absence and change management, or in the case of schools prepare the case on the behalf of school management.
9. Attend Hearings to advise and support the manager in their presentation, or in the case of schools present the case to Governors on behalf of the school.
10. Attend Hearings to advise the Chair or panel of school Governors in their decision making at cases presented by colleague advisors.
11. Assist legal colleagues in preparing for Employment Tribunal cases, and assist managers in preparation of packs at the Member appeal stage, or provide advice to Governors at appeal stage in the case of schools.
Qualifications:
1. Chartered Member CIPD.
Skills & Experience:
1. Minimum of 12 months recent experience in a similar role or context and ideally within a public sector organisation.
2. Demonstrable experience of working in an HR advisory role.
3. Knowledge of the issues facing the customer and the challenges within the public sector, including NJC terms and conditions and Teachers Terms and Conditions.
4. Experience of guiding managers through TUPE transfer process.
5. Good working knowledge of employment legislation and HR best practice.
6. Experience of working in a Trade Union environment on employee relations issues.
7. Good communication skills, verbal and written (including report writing).
8. Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite, Adobe Pro).
