Role overview
We are looking for a new Admission / Discharge Nurse to join our Barlborough site. This will be 30 hours over 3 days per week including weekends.
Our Ophthalmic Nurses ensure a safe and efficient in our services, supporting outpatients through their clinical and theatre journeys.
Youll manage the pre-operative patient process by performing a range of clinical assessments and getting the patients ready for surgery. The thought of eye surgery can be a daunting prospect for patients to deal with, particularly just before going into theatre, so our Ophthalmic Nurses need to be empathetic and friendly and able to put patients at ease and help them feel comfortable whist they are being prepared.
Youll care for our post operative patients by helping them relax whilst you explain the next steps and medication details, clearly explaining what they can expect and what any possible side effects can be.
Our services are busy, we can typically see 18-24 patients a day in our high-volume cataract surgery provision, so youll thrive working in an efficient and fast paced environment.
You can also be supporting the consultant in outpatient clinics, undertaking diagnostic testing as required. Youll be maintaining accurate patient records and in all you do youll ensure the highest standards are met in terms of patient safety, confidentiality, clinical compliance and hygiene levels.

What skills and experience do I need?
You need to be a fully qualified Registered Nurse and need a current registration with the NMC, ODP & HCPC.
In an ideal world you will already have ophthalmic experience in an admission and discharge capacity.
The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of Biometry/Corneal Topography/ OCT/ FFA/ IOP along with skills conducting diagnostic assessments in Visual Acuity/ IOP checks either Tonopen/Goldman Tonometer Visual Fields/ Pachymetry/ Slit Lamp Skills .
Alongside the mandatory qualifications the following things will be advantageous:
1. Previous hospital eye service or private eye clinic experience
2. Knowledge of clinical practice and aware of current developments in Optometry
3. Capable of working in a fast paced, high-volume clinical setting
4. The training and coaching of others
5. The desire for and commitment to continuous professional development
6. A competent user of computer systems and programmes
7. An excellent grasp of the English language both verbally and in written format
8. A good team player happy to jump in and support others when required
