Key Result Areas
Carer Support West Cumbria’s aim is to support unpaid carers across West Cumbria by offering a number of free to access services. The Benefits Support Coordinator will facilitate, promote and run a series of monthly Benefit Clinics for carers throughout Allerdale and Copeland.
This job description does not provide an exhaustive list of tasks and activities, as all posts within the organisation are subject to evolution as the organisation develops and grows.
Benefits Support Coordinator Responsibilities:
* To develop, promote and deliver benefits clinics each month in Allerdale (CSWC office, Keswick, Maryport, Silloth, Wigton & Workington) and Copeland (Whitehaven).
* To provide information about and to support Carers and the people for whom they care to access benefits including (but not exclusively): Carers Allowance, Attendance Allowance, Disability Living Allowance, Personal Independence Payment and Council Tax reduction.
* To refer Carers and the people for whom they care to relevant services to provide support and information regarding other benefits (primarily means tested benefits).
* To continuously develop knowledge on benefits, grants and related services relevant to Carers.
* To build on existing relationships and partnerships with libraries; current venues for the clinics.
* To develop own and Carer Support West Cumbria’s knowledge of grants and other funding sources available to Carers and the people for whom they care.
* Work with the Volunteer Coordinators to develop volunteer role descriptions, protocols and recruitment for clinic volunteers.
* Work with Operations Manager to cleanse and manage data.
* Maintain an effective booking system for the clinics.
* Update, manage and maintain benefits clinic information on the relevant spreadsheet and the Charity Log database.
* To work in accordance with all Carer Support West Cumbria policies and procedures.
* Develop and deliver promotional material in connection with the project including short talks where appropriate.
* Develop monitoring and evaluation processes of benefit clinic outcomes.
* Evaluate and monitor benefit clinic attendees to create reporting metrics as per the funding guidelines.
* To attend meetings, provide written progress reports to Carer Support West Cumbria as required.
* To make and maintain links with local, regional and national networks of and for carers.
* To work closely with Adult Carer Support Workers, Carer Health Workers and Young Carer Support Workers.
* To attend any relevant training provided by Carer Support West Cumbria.
* To assist with benefit enquiries and share changes to benefits and benefits information with the wider Carer Support West Cumbria team.
* To attend carer events, meetings and forums as required.
* To carry out any additional relevant duties as required by this post.
