Your Role
Are you a public health leader with a commitment to achieving registration as a Public Health Specialist via the UKPHR portfolio route?
Are you keen to work in a supportive and ambitious public health team, where you can lead significant programmes of work to improve health and reduce health inequalities within our borough?
This is an exciting opportunity to join us in Stockport for two years, where you will help shape your own ‘consultant level’ role and drive meaningful improvements in health outcomes while addressing any remaining gaps in your portfolio ‘show how’ competencies and being supported to make a full portfolio submission to UKPHR.
You will provide temporary backfill while one of our Consultants takes on a new role outside the Borough. Supporting the Director of Public Health, you will ensure that Stockport’s public health responsibilities are successfully fulfilled. You will take a leadership role within the council and externally in improving health and wellbeing of local residents.
Key responsibilities include:
* Provide expert public health advice to Elected Members, Directors and senior officers in the Council and the Stockport Locality of Greater Manchester Integrated Care.
* Act as a consultant in public health, including working as a professional change agent, in areas to be identified in the job plan.
About You
To succeed in this role you will need:
* A high level of intellectual rigour, political awareness, communication and negotiation skills.
* A Masters in Public Health, or equivalent.
* Evidence that you are close to completing the process of compiling a portfolio to demonstrate that you meet the competency requirements for registration as a Public Health Specialist (UKPHR SRbPA).
* The ability to work flexibly across a varied portfolio.

If you would like to find out more about the role please contact Ben Fryer, Consultant in Public Health at ben.fryer@stockport.gov.uk to arrange an informal discussion about the role.
This post is politically restricted under the terms of the 1989 Local Government and Housing Act. This dictates that you must seek the council’s permission before taking up any additional appointments or positions.
Please note that we have made a commitment to improve the employment opportunities for people with disabilities, care leavers and ex-military personnel. As part of the Guaranteed Assessment Scheme you will therefore be guaranteed an interview if you meet both the criteria for the scheme and the essential job role criteria.
