Technical Director - Civil and Structural Design Consultancy We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Technical Director to join our client's team in the North East of England. Following a new management team structure, this role presents a dynamic environment where the Technical Director will play a pivotal role in helping to lead the company forward, aligning technical excellence with business objectives and growth. Your Role As a key leader, you’ll guide a talented team of engineers and technicians, oversee technical strategy, and ensure all projects meet the highest standards of quality, compliance, and innovation. From driving business development to shaping sustainability practices and implementing strategic direction to projects across a variety of sectors, your influence will be instrumental to the businesses success. Key Responsibilities • Lead and manage a small team of Engineers and Technicians on a day-to-day basis, providing mentorship to the team and technical support to the wider office as needed • Interpret technical requirements of tenders, providing technical input into bids and submissions and assisting with bid writing and fee letters as required • Oversight and approval of outgoing drawings, reports, calculations and reports • Identifying technical skills gaps, implementing training and development plans and CPD opportunities • Oversee software maintenance, ensuring all design software remains fit for purpose; identifying new or emerging software or where improvements can be made • Assessing technical/commercial risks to Portland • General design co-ordination as well as undertaking specialist design work and writing specialist reports where needed • Monitor for any changes in legislation alongside updates to technical standards and codes of practice, reporting all technical matters at management meetings • Driving business development and identifying opportunities for growth to expand the company’s client base and market presence • Work in alignment with our business plan, contributing to the achievement of our strategic goals and ensuring the continued growth. • Attendance at networking events • Implementation and monitoring of new protocols and procedures within the team • Maintain and manage the recent launch of our drawing office manual and standardisation Requirements In addition to having a confident, commercial and professional outlook you will need to have: • Chartered Membership or Associate Membership of the ICE or IStructE • High level of technical understanding with the ability to communicate this knowledge clearly – verbally and in writing • Demonstrates effective problem-solving and decision-making skill • Strong communication, analysis, technical design and drawing skills • A self-motivated team player with good people skills and experience of managing & mentoring a team • Excellent people management and networking skills • A wide range of project experience across civil and structural What's on offer • Competitive salary • Reward for hard working and progression • Support in gaining professional qualifications • Death in service benefit • Family friendly policies • Flexible working hours
