JOB TITLE – HP Surveyor LOCATION – Aldermaston DEPARTMENT – Defence TYPE – Perm or Contract Hours - 9 day fortnight Working for NSG NSG Environmental Ltd has been delivering work programmes in the nuclear industry for over 40 years. Traditionally in the areas of decommissioning and waste management, NSG now has a broad customer base and provides a wide spectrum of services across the nuclear project lifecycle, ranging from expert consultancy support, R&D and engineering design to rekit and refurbishment, site installation services and high-hazard physical decommissioning works, amongst others. This work is delivered at NSG’s own offices and purpose-built facilities and nuclear sites across the UK. The delivery and management of these projects and programmes of work is carried out by a skilled workforce composed of both white-collar and blue-collar personnel in technical, administrative, and physical roles. The Role To perform activities and carry out assessments on tasks, equipment or environments, which have radiological impact. To ensure compliance with Ionising Radiation Regulations 2017 (IRR17) and as instructed by the Radiation Protection Supervisor [RPS]. Carry out tasks as required for specific projects including: Radiological surveys and analyses Routine Health Physics tasks including – Response checks of instrumentation Monitoring of personnel and areas Designated area access / egress control Air sampling PPE / RPE inspection Possible use of specialised RPE, i.e. PBASO (pressurised breathing air suit operative) Working party compliance with radiological controls Clearance monitoring Decontamination of areas, items and personnel Prepare and maintain all necessary records, and associated documentation Assist project engineers as necessary with work/test instructions and studies Report progress and results to the RPS /Supervisor / Site Manager Liaise with internal colleagues as necessary in order to contribute to the development of business by internal referral and communication of appropriate information and intelligence Interface with client representatives as appropriate to complement the technical integrity and competence of the Company, and/or to provide an informed source or referral Qualifications and Skills Essential NVQ Radiation Protection or City & Guilds - Radiation Safety Practices Proven experience of health physics surveillance Understands radiological issues, radioactive shielding and barrier theories and protocols for safe working Working knowledge of Health & Safety Regulations including COSHH, PUWER, LOLER and RIDDOR Experience in compliance with Radiological Protection / IRR 99 Competent user of MS Office Able to organise and prioritise own work Able to carry out simple arithmetic calculations Skilled in utilisation of technical or scientific data Desirable ONC / HNC or equivalent in relevant discipline Membership of appropriate technical / professional body Used to dealing with confidential and commercial information Ability to communicate with a wide range of colleagues at all levels and with external stakeholders and contractors Knowledge of ISO 9001 / 14001 & 45001 Personal Attributes Flexible Team player Committed to and understanding of NSG’s Vision, Mission and Values Have due regard to equal opportunities and diversity at all times, and to work in a fair and reasonable manner towards all stakeholders
